how outdated are blogroll links in terms of effective SEO?

I've never really been into trading blog roll links but considered it recently.

I'm guessing it's pretty out-dated though and 10% as effective as it used to be? Is this true? I really have no concept cause I've never bothered doing it. So I wasn't sure if I should spend any time on this.

I'm talking about trying to get other sites to include my link on their blogroll link list.

Wordpress discontinued their blogroll widget in their latest update...
You have to install a plugin now to get it.

So Wordpress must think it's outdated...

Lol, WP just stopped Link widget because it's now totally duplicating the Custom Menu function. So everyone and their granmas do WP blogrolls with Custom menus now.

To OP - of course blogrolls are seen more spammy than in-text editorial links. But depends on the premise of course.

What do you mean by trading?

Don't tell us you're going to exchange blogroll links with others. If you do it wrong, ofcourse its not going to work. but many of us here get a few blogroll links - quality ones.. maybe ask I2E, if I'm not mistaken he may have something for you ;)
