Tor sucks because on average you are downloading at like 35kb/s or even slower in a lot of cases. It's not that big of a deal because I don't know why you would need to download anything large from Tor so this is probably not an issue but it's still slow enough that even browsing can be a chore sometimes.

Just click hidden wiki and look around I guess. I just use it to check out how it is evolving and what is going on for curiosities sake but that's about it.

I tried to use the torch search and no matter what I search for it returns results from a pedo forum.

The whole operation is quite intriguing as to how it is setup though. A lot of the shit is down right now I think because of overload. I was reading on reddit there are something like 10k Tor nodes and users jumped from 150k to 450k+ recently. I think it would be pretty easy to take down the whole network by just overloading it though no?? Or does anyone (feds) refuse to do that because they use it too? Surely they have their own alternatives?

100% spot on.
The Deep web isn't some purposefully constructed network of sketchy websites. It refers to pages that are not indexed by Google and other SEs, whether because they are private, require logins, or never got around to being indexed because there are no links to them. It's not referring to a alternate internet network of illegal websites.
The Wiki they provided is just an anonymous website on the Tor network, and links to other such websites. This isn't some organization of super-secret hackers/child rapists/assassins who have all convened in this location like a secret society. It's just a bunch of websites people setup using the Tor/onion network. More importantly, this is just a drop in the water of unindexed websites, or the "deep web."
Also, the biggest issue I have with this post is the bullshit about hackers. Completely false. BB.com or whoever wrote this clearly doesn't know much about computer security or hacking. Spy on us via our webcams? They don't understand that you'd have to exploit SPECIFIC software to even break into the user's computer, there's not some blanket program you can load up and just start looking at people's webcams like magic. And again, the Deep Web isn't an organized group, or even a group at all. To say that it's the secret meeting place for the world's best hackers is just laughable...
