How to determine my referrals sent to company with no affiliate program?

Heyya,

So I have a few thousand targeted subscribers eager for a specific product that is difficult to find, and I recently discovered a company that does sell the product but they don't have an affiliate program for me to tap into.

When contacted, the company expressed great interest as well but are wondering how to tell which customers come from my site or subscribers.

They're open to suggestions as to how we can accomplish this, so I thought I'd pop by and see if anyone has encountered & resolved a similar situation or otherwise has any suggestions...

Obviously their end of any deal will be more assured than mine (ie. they take the order and don't ship until they're paid), but hopefully I can get something together that'll work for me too.

The only option I can think of offhand for them to know what inbound traffic is coming from my efforts, would be to have them create a unique landing page on their site where I could direct those leads... so any completed orders coming from that page should result in commish to me.

Any other ideas?

Mucho appreciato!

-Most Practical Method-
Link to their site from to your site with http://www.site.com/?id=blah which is still not going to give you 100% of referals due to natural reasons. Have them setup a pixel after whatever action it is you are getting paid for takes place (buying product, member signing up, whatever), and they can store the ID in their database and you can compare #s

-More Room for Error Method-
Have them store the referering URLs from the visitors header in their database and all that come for your site you get credited for any that perform whatever action it is you are getting paid on. This requires you to trust them in giving you accurate #s

If there are repeat customers that come in I would attempt to work out an agreement for them as well. They can easily track this in their database if they are willing.

Well, don't do this. Email applications are not going to pass referring URLs.

The first method listed should work. There are a few programmers here that'd be able to get this working quite inexpensively.

Get them to sign up to the likes of shareasale and make $150. Of course it'll open the offer up to the competition as well.

Hey guys,

Thanks very much for the wide variety of great suggestions and subsequent caveats both here and in PM. I'm going to summarize them all and pass it on to the company to see which route they want to go.

Having this many options to choose from should hopefully result in a referral system I can make some serious bank on.

Mucho gracias

One way to track the sales on their end would be to sell it at a different price point. If product X is 29.95 than promote it at the price of 29.75.
Of course they would have to setup a checkout for u with that price point (I'm assuming they take orders through some sort of a cart)
Than obviously all sales on their end with the .75 price point = came from you

Again, this is only on their end.

Good luck!

First post ever hope it helps
