How do you guys go about pricing? I'm thinking about starting up a service where I will build a simple wordpress website for someone which will use a theme from a site I have a subscription at and would then do some backlinking for them and wrap it all up in a nice report.

I worked out that it would cost $149 in outsourcing fees so of course I would make sure the service cost at least $149 but how much should I add on for profit?

Well you're already getting pretty pricey for a wordpress site but, price accordingly to what you feel your time is worth, and if others feel the same about your service you won't have a problem.

it depends on what type of customer's you are targeting too;
if you are more b2b, you should be able to price it higher as long as you explain the benefits, not just of the sites, but the benefits of your seo efforts

I'm thinking you should look into new people to outsource.

For a WP install, some articles, theme setup, + a few hundred dir submissions or social bookmarks shouldn't come to more than $50. Less even.

Then price it at $150-200 (low enough that you'll get customers in this competitive market) and pocket $100-$150 profit.

Depends on your target market. You would be pushing shit uphill to get people to buy it here for that price (except for the occasional n00b).

If you're selling to local businesses who wouldn't know wordpress from a wine press, then you could charge $1000 and they probably wouldn't blink.
