How would you feel about a third George Bush in office?

History is going to be pretty god damn harsh on the Republican party during this period. Even if they rise up and stop the zombie invasion of 2016, make the economy quadruple, and personally weed everyone's lawn while supplying BJ's to the gay webmasters - history will STILL say "We have no idea WTF they were thinking in 2012".

I'm not a huge Obama fan - but the fact of the matter is he knew the electorate and they did not. The traditional voters of the GOP - ie, white people - no longer have a majority demographically. If they do not adapt and bring in another large racial group they are screwed.

What's funny is that Latinos could easily be swayed by them. Latinos tend to be fairly religiously conservative and family oriented. If the GOP could get them on board (think "amnesty") the democrats would be fucked.

off the top of your head, name the soviet leader who would have been in power if they hadn't selected gorbechev. history is harsh on who is in power when the music stops, period.

That's right in my wheelhouse - back in those days Yeltsin was still a rising star and major player (prior to becoming leader, which is obviously when he peaked) and it could have been him. I was a Poli Sci/pre law major in college then. Fascinating stuff...

Reagan gets credit for taking down the USSR - essentially he bankrupted them through an arms race. Unfortunately he also bankrupted the US, taking us from the biggest creditor nation on earth down the path to becoming one of the biggest debtor nations.

good stuff. i think you proved the point. history rewards/blames those in power when things occur, not the actual underlying causes. to say "History is going to be pretty god damn harsh on the Republican party during this period" assumes history remembers their role at all, which won't be the case if precedent plays out.

I'm always amazed at how The Republican Party allowed that to happen. The Democratic party has always been anti-black since they created the KKK in the 1800's as the enforcement arm of the party, to the creation of trade unions to keep blacks from taking white jobs, to the failed Great Society programs that began the process of destroying the family unit. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood was a eugenicist that believed abortion was the best way to control the black population, and to this day over 50% of all black pregnancies end in abortion. These are all Democrat Institutions, but Republicans allow themselves to be branded as racist lol.

The fact that 95% of blacks vote Democrat is one of the modern miracles of mind manipulation and how easy it is to get a group of people to sell their soul. It's also an indictment on the ineptitude of the Republican Party that watched it slowly happen and has done nothing to reverse it.

I still do not get it why there are only Republicans and Democrats in the US. It's kind of "half communism" to have just two parties. It's leaves very little choice a a big room for manipulation of voters.
On the other hand there are countries with more than a dozen of parties and they still have very little choice as all of them are useless.

In politics, you can fix a broken party by first claiming it is broken, then later claiming it is not broken anymore.

First of all, of course it is wrong, the two parties both love to promote socialized corporatism and are nothing more than two puppets on the same dictators' hands.

However, how did the two parties get weeded down to in the first place?

This video does an Awesome job of describing why it's a mathematical certainty:
