Im finally thinking about giving in and getting an iphone. Im hesitant to leave verizon which has awesome service for AT&T which ive heard has shit service. Unfortunately verizons phones suck.

Anyone live in suburban areas and have AT&T? Hows the reception?

Reception and service has been great for me. I'm in the Seattle area and have been with AT&T for over 5 yrs now. I was with T-Mobile prior to that for 6 yrs and I found AT&T to have better coverage (their roll-over minutes was a draw as well)

YMMV of course depending on what party of the US you are located.

I've had T-mobile for like 6 years so when the iphone came out I got an unlocked one so I wouldn't have to switch over to AT&T. When I'm in an elevator with my friend who has an iPhone from AT&T, my iphone has no service and hers does. When my contract runs out I'll probably switch to AT&T. The only advantage to having an unlocked iPhone is you're not obligated to have the iPhone plan which is like $100/month, so I can have an iPhone with T-mobile and only spend $40/month if I want...but who does that?

I'm on Alltel and they lease towers from Alltel in my area (some sort of semi-permenant roaming agreement) anyways I get awesome service, but know people with AT&T up here that have some issues.

That said I think it all boils down to location, plus the sprint/nextel people I know get even worse service so is what it is.

I'm in a similar boat though really looking to go to AT&T for phone selection and plan variety, but not sure I want to sacrifice quality service. Might just wait it out until the next iPhone announcement.

unlocked iphones still work? Would I be able to get one with Verizon?

I have AT&T and it's been heads and tails better than what I had before - US Cellular. Reception is always pretty good.

I have the 3G iPhone (switch from Sprint 3 months ago) and I have never had less then 5 bars. Even when driving through the plains of Kansas I get 5 bars.

Buy it and you'll never go back to another phone.

Yea there will be a new iPhone coming soon, I've had the 3G for about 5 months and I love it.

I get perfect reception here in the Tampa Bay, FL area - but I did have some trouble getting signal while I was in SF for Ad:Tech

I twittered about it and someone that worked at ATT said they where upgrading to the 4G service while I was there and that I was not the only one with problems.

So that could be fixed now.

my AT&T coverage is better than when I had verizon...they are both very good in central/south jersey...but i think that AT&T is better and has faster internet.

so the service is $100/mo?

I figured
voice $39.99 (lowest voice plan)
Data $30
200 texts $5
Total = $74.99 (+ taxes of course)

Wait till June as there will be an iPhone revision and new OS 3.0 :)

only thing that would be different for him is the hardware (more ram etc, wow. my iphone is fast as shit now).. all iphone users get the software update. hardware update is not worth the wait IMO

I was hesitant too. I live in Central CT, but am in Long Island, NYC, NJ and Boston quite a bit. Signal strength and call quality is strong from Boston to south Jersey. I use an iPhone 3G.

at+t is nothing but dropped calls and shitty reception in any major city. iphone fanbois will defend the reception to death because they don't want to admit they're on the worst provider in the country.

verizon destroys pretty much everyone else for good service, although its gay how they cripple their phones...doesn't realy matter how un-crippled your phone is if you get dropped calls all the time (i haven't had a single dropped call in the 3 years ive been on verizon)
