Hey guys, I'll jump right to the point for ya.

So I'm in the process to purchase a huge site (torrent type site to be exact).

I know the owner bla bla, before he pushed the domain over to my account he got an error saying: This name is on Registrar Freeze.

Now what ever the fuck that shit was, I said ok who knows what kind of error that is, so the next try was successful - the domain is now on my account.

There isn't too much info floating around about "registrar freeze" so I just picked up some bits and pieces, no the domain can't be deleted but don't know the rest, still waiting for the legal department from my registrar to contact me regarding this matter.

If you have any idea what this shit is I would very very much appreciate your opinion.

Now, the SEO question.

The site has HUGE traffic and is 1 for few keywords that have hundreds of thousands of searches, it's fucking beautiful.

Would it be a good idea to 301 this baby and what would be the impact?

Thanks!

301 it where and why? To another similar site in the same niche you already have?

If it ranks I would say develop it with similar content, structure, and users as before.

Registars can freeze sites for a variety of reasons. New domain, Newly transferred, changed some registration info. Strangely activity that you might do before selling a domain can cause it to freeze.

Might help if you said who the previous registar was.

That's what I was thinking yea, get a new domain transfer the site from old to new and just 301 (this would be my last option.)

It would take years before a new site would grow to reach the same audience this one has.

The domain was transferred from name.com to his namecheap.com account - he then pushed the domain to my account.

What is the reason for not wanting to run it like it is now on the same domain and with the same content?

Did you just buy the domain and not the content or user list? Have a database backup from the CMS, forum, or whatever this site is?
