I can't believe no one has started a thread about the NSA shit from this week...

What's there to discuss? Many knew it was happening. Those who want to remain ignorant will not be changed when the truth comes out, as it did not change people's views when other 'crazy conspiracies' were proven right (like the gulf of tonkin, mkultra, tuskegee, etc)

Those who want to see, can do so and question. Those who don't, can group all alternative view points into crazies as you are implying.

Nothing to see here.

What is there to discuss?

I honestly don't think there's much to discuss in terms of the government side of things. To be surprised by the fact that an agency dedicated to spying was spying domestically would just be ignorance at its finest.

I think the way all of the big companies implicated in this are obviously all answering requests for responses with a very calculated, specific language is what's interesting. Seems that they're between a rock and a hard place and can potentially stand to have at least their "business ethics" compromised because of something they were forced to do by the government.

Well, why? where is the news?

That is all known. The NSA checks on a global scale worldwide the communication. All. In big brother style. Without any real control through people and courts.

There is Guantanamo, where people get tortured in a "legal" way.
America accepted that.

The NSA shit is the next logical step. Why should they stop?

America decided to go this way years ago.

It's not a big discussion on here because we've talked about this shit years ago. It's not new to us. To be honest, when I saw it make such a big splash I had to reread the stories to see if I missed something new. Nope, nothing new.

If you search the archives here you'll see old discussions about Palantir (the official name of the software used for PRISM). I think a few members here may have even claimed it was all crazy talk at the time...

An assumption and a confirmation are two distinguishable differences. And I think this entire exposure is alarming, but what's more distressing are the future implications of this action.

That point alone is what bothers me most about this.

People should talk about this. But to me, this has set a precedent and it's time for a roll call.

Is there a tinfoil shortage or something?!??!

For real though, this shit is right up your guys' alley...where's the discussion?

Well, LukeP is banned for some reason. If I remember you're not a big fan of him (could be wrong) but he would have been all over this.

As for me I'm not really shocked. I've been saying that Government, in all parties and at all levels, will always abuse power, expand their power and do whatever they can to exploit their citizens. I got tired of trying to argue this point a long time ago.

None of this news surprises me. What does surprise me is how the MSM is reporting on it. Everyone from CNN, Huffpo to the NY Times are slamming the Government and administration.

MSM is a tool of the state, so it makes me wonder wtf they're up to. It could be a diversion from something much more important. It could be a ploy to make people believe that the MSM actually investigates and reports news, or that the state can police itself when a few "bad apples" do wrong. It could be an internal power struggle.

I don't know. I don't really care. Government corruption is being brought up in the MSM. I get the feeling that the solution they propose will involve more Government. Meh, more important things to spend my time thinking about.

And they STILL won't believe it... Everything is all a "conspiracy theory."
People that don't trust the gobament are wack jobs!

Nothing to see here... move along. Maybe everyone can watch American Idol
and football games while the government is working on the next scandal.

I was a little surprised it was going on 3+ days and no new thread about this. Interesting enough Matt Cutts got checkmated by some chick on Twitter regarding Fiber Optics and Google "encryption", as a side note to this.

Last Comment was left for lulz...

Every company seems to be denying it even though Obama commented earlier about the Verizon aspect stating "No one is listening to your calls", I don't know whether he commented on the PRISM afterwards, but he did stated they operations were classified, so Matt Cutts and gang pretty much have to deny knowing anything.

Sure you have to be careful with NSA. But bro, either regular rubber or natural goat rubber is fine, no need for "tin foil"

How about that Glenn Greenwald?

I was kind of surprised by the lack of thread on this too. I guess we all mostly knew what was going on anyways. If you have sensitive info or just don't want to be spied on, encrypt you shit. Otherwise, know that what you say and do is being tracked. It's nothing new.

It's interesting how it isn't strict left vs. right paradigm (though some are trying to spin it in that direction). Al Gore is acting outraged, but so are people like Hannity and Limbaugh - and they are basically using the "liberal" Guardian and Glenn Greenwald (whom they might also label "liberal" based on other columns) as the source here.

No one has been talking about it here because we're busy monetizing it.

No one here is surprised. The only thing possibly surprising is that people probably think PRISM is the worst of it.

But, they'd probably not believe the whole rabbit hole, so what would be the point in telling them?

There is no general-use encryption that isn't unencrypted in near real time by the NSA.
