Hello,

I created a web application that I need help marketing. The program places a tracking component into a word document so you can see whenever people open the document. I started a thread about it here, but basically I made it so I'd know who was reading my resume when I sent it out to companies. It's extremely frustrating to send out a resume and not know if they got it or even looked at it.

Anyways, I just finished setting up my affiliate marketing program and now I need help marketing it. The commission is 40% per sale, and first tier affiliates get 12%. The prices are as follows:

1-Month Plan: $19.99 * 40% = $8.00
3-Month Plan: $29.99 * 40% = $12.00
1-Year Plan: $99.99 * 40% = $40.00

If you refer an affiliate and they make a sale, your commission on that will be:

1-Mo: $8 * 12% = $0.96
3-Mo: $12 * 12% = $1.44
1-Yr: $40 * 12% = $4.80

I decided on this pricing structure after speaking with several friends and asking them what it would be worth to them. I originally planned to sell this for around $5 / mo, but all of my friends gave me a price range of around $15-20/mo. If this turns out to be too high, then I will reduce the price.

I am completely new to affiliate marketing and internet sales in general, so I appreciate patience. I want to learn how to do this, and I want to make it work for everyone involved. If you have suggestions on the software or marketing tips, I'd love to hear them. I have a lot of other ideas I would like to program, but I think this opportunity is a great way for me to learn.

You can download and try out the program here - its called DokuTracker:

DokuTracker

I suggest you play around with it and try it out. Just sign up for the free-trial. I'll give you a free account later if you decide to market it for me - just PM me or contact me through my website.

Once you try it out, you can sign up for the affiliate program here:

Let me know what you think!

Quick thought: have you considered creating a separate website for this product and selling it as a solution to tracing document leaks? I know for a fact that every large organisation out there has issues with this problem, and if you jacked up your prices high enough, you could potentially earn some serious dough from this market.

Don't be affraid to jack up the price and experiment.

We had a SaaS offer. We launched at 25$. It turned out most people that it was a scam and were not taking it seriously.

We doubled the price. Everyone was happy.

There are a lot of variations on this software that I can try out. I thought the resume was a good first approach because of its simplicity and the number of people looking for jobs right now. For large organizations it would need a little tweaking which would make it more complex, but it is certainly do-able. If this program here sells, I will certainly look into expanded opportunities.

Its funny you say that. When I had it at $5/mo, my brother thought it was a scam because it was "too good to be true." All of my friends thought $5 was way undervalued. So I raised it and I think this is a good move. I may experiment again by raising the rates, but for now I want to stick with this. Friends I talked to seemed to think $15-20/mo was a good value.

The nice thing is that the subscription module I am using allows me to have more "hidden" price plans, so if some affiliates want to try and sell it for different amounts I can do that and not have it advertised on the main site.

JobFox beat you too this.

Also if they don't allow macros or whatever will you get a notice?

No. There is no executable code that gets saved with the document. All the person reading your document needs is an active internet connection. If they don't have one the document will still look completely normal, the document creator just won't be notified.

I want exclusive SEO rights to this product minus your branded page. If you are open to this let's work it out.

I'll get you top 8-10 websites that convert for each demographic for each keyword topic. We will just have to work out the margins.

If this is something you want to discuss more about message me and we will discuss via telephone. If anybody tries to go against me in SEO they will lose anyways, it will just hurt my ROI...

Can both of you please provide some references for SEO you've done in the past? Do you have a boilerplate contract written already that I can review for this sort of thing? I need to know what my options are in the event our relationship doesn't work out. I'm open to grant you exclusive SEO keywords, but I need to know more about it. Please PM me your phone number and the details I asked for and I'll get back to you soon.

Psh I wish I was the "king of seo"! I am by no means the king of seo. There are alot more people out there that will kick my ass in a heart beat.

What I was referring to was for this particular niche and as being an affiliate if I can do things cheaper than the next guy even if they have the same tactics and techniques then I win. That is assuming we both use most effective tactics.

Is it just me being new to this ? I think there are a good deal of KW's that would rank for this. I'm willing to give it a try.

there will always be a margin of error when it comes to your statistics because of word documents being opened on machines with no internet access.

most documents that people would want to have tracked are generally in PDF format to ensure the integrity of the documents. is this product compatible with other formats / software? what about open office?

I haven't attempted PDFs yet, but it might be possible.

The document owner must use Microsoft Office (97-2010) to insert the tracking component. The viewer of the document can use a variety of different readers including Word, Word Viewer, Google Docs, and Open Office. There might be others but I haven't tested them.
