I run a website.. it gets shitloads of traffic, according to Quantcast and Alexa I get about a third more than John Chow.

It's a news website ya see. Can a news site even have targeted traffic?

It's time to start milking that cash-cow for all she's worth.. but how?

Google Adsense? It's a joke. In fact all CPM is a joke these days. Advertising sucks so bad it's like a granma who forgot to take her teeth out.

Affiliate programs? If I knew what kinda shit converts for a news site I'd make my own product and get my own team of affilaites.

List building? Yeah.. thousands on my newsletter.. but again wtf converts for a news site?

So if you owned it, what would you clever fuckers do to make it earn it's keep?
 


Create a lot of news sites on different IPs. News sites tend to generate lots of pages.

Then create money sites and use your news sites to link to those. Even send some "qualified" traffic with banner. WIN. Profit.

One simple way to make some money is to run polls on ur news site, and do zip submit.
Free Ipad offers convert well now on news sites.

CNN? Yep been looking at every other news site I can find, looks to me like they either make their money in two ways:

CPM adverts or by access to subscription content which would damage my site because my traffic is 100% organic search engine traffic & social media.

What kind of news? Everything really.. politics, sports, sci-tech, opinion, business, entertainment etc.

To the tools calling it bullshit.. put yer helmets back on, this is for business owners with an IQ of at least 52, sorry.

5 years ago Adsense was a nice little earner, there's not enough in it anymore. $2k a month isn't enough to hold my interest anyway.


I never said I wasn't making money. I want to make more. The way I see it is ff John Chow is making $40k a month from his traffic (if he is telling the truth), then surely I can make around the same.

Not really the case, I don't give a dam about John Chow, never have, never will, so I don't know exactly what site of his or you are talking about, or are you talking about his personal blog?

Just because you have more traffic doesn't mean you'll make more then him. Different niches = different value. You got a health blog with decent traffic and you're making bank, but you have a game website with higher traffic, you probably still won't make the same.

Anyways, not sure if you said what type of news you offer, so what type of news do you post on your website?

P.S. The fuck off, comes from not posting in the right section.
 
Now Jeffrey, different niches = different values.. I agree with that.

The more thought I give it to, because it's a general news site (politics, entertainment, business etc) is to find products that have a wide appeal.. shit that everyone wants more of.. such as; Everyone wants more money, better health etc..

Just creating this thread, and reading it back to myself has given me a couple of ideas.. so for that reason it's been a valuable experience.

One idea I've got is to place targeted products on each section of the site.. so all pages in the business section would carry business related products. Same for the health section of the site and so on.

And maybe I could drill down even further by placing targeted products on each post of the site relating to that specific post (there's around 20,000 pages on the site, could take a while).

Anyway, just being able to talk some shit, bounce and write ideas down like this, with the input from you guys, and even the tards, is feeling really valuable.
 
If you want to place specific ads on your website, prosperent might be an option for you. I have had moderate success with them in the past. You have already placed adsense on the site from what I have read, correct?
