I got more traffic than John Chow.. but

I wonder why you cite John Chow site as your benchmark?

Look at other aggregators around and find a personal way.
It's not difficult, work on news headlines and build an algorithm.

Hello friend,

While you may have more traffic John Chow you no have John Chow quality traffic.

John Chow traffic listen to him so when he say buy this product or join this affiliate network lot people do because they think by listen they can make lot money online to.

So John Chow can get lot affiliate and referral commision that way. But if you make post on news site and say buy this product no one listen to you. So quality of traffic no as good like John Chow traffic.

Good luck bro

my advice would be to pick a side... you can't just have a news site - that's too general. spin it either liberal or conservative and i think you'll see some success. look at how drudge does it then he has ads for conservative t-shirts and crap. he seems to be doing well... i'd start by adding and an opinion column to your site then doing some news releases or something. good luck!

Would you please just fuck off!

so you're making 2k off adsense and you're complaining? fuck man, take your 2k and invest in creating/promoting other websites with it. 1 site isn't gonna make you rich.

Let me pay you a flat fee per month. You get paid and I get to find out what works.

Thanks for the offer, I'm not interested in making small amounts through advertising, unless we're talking about a few $K a month and I doubt you're that insane.

You can run your ads on it for free man, find out what's working and then keep them on the site (and publish articles with links to your products if you want) as a thank you. I'll drop you a PM during the week once I've cleared my inbox to work out a long term deal that benefits both of us.

Working with another marketer with fresh ideas could be a win-win.

If you want to place specific ads on your website, prosperent might be an option for you. I have had moderate success with them in the past. You have already placed adsense on the site from what I have read, correct?
Now that looks really interesting, thanks man. Gonna check out some reviews about it now.

I run about 20 websites, this one by far has the largest amount of traffic.

See it like this, if you were driving down a long clear road in a (insert dream car here) would you be happy to dive at 30mph or would you want to crank it up to 80+mph?

1) Acquire rebills.
2) Acquire farticles.
3) Been HAD site placement.
4) Acquire money
5) Acquire payment.

Watch out for Dee along the way.

If you want my honest opinion I would run my own adserver and try to optimize per category.

Sign up for one of the bigger cpa networks, pick about 20 different offers, hire a few people to make 1 or 2 landing pages per offer, and 10-20 different creatives per offer. This obviously depends on how much traffic you're getting, how many categories you have, how many impressions you can afford to devote to your own ads vs cpm ads that are currently paying the bills, ymmv.

if you are a business owner with an IQ over 52 you should be able to figure out how to track everything properly, so I'm not going to get into that to save space.

But in a nutshell, set up different instances of your ad server in each category of your site. Let run for awhile, get some data. Eliminate ads/lps that aren't converting. Repeat.

Before you know it, you'll have a money machine churning a nice daily profit, significantly higher than you could make with adsense or cpm ads. And on top of it, you'll know which "type" of ads do better in each category, so when new offers come out, you'll instantly know which category to start throwing it into the mix.

I would suggest adshuffle (I've used it) and adjuggler (haven't used it but others like it). Those are the two I know offhand that auto-optimize (or get close to it).

That's my 2 cents

Glad I stumbled into this thread because I'm in a similar position...

Have a local news site indexed by Google News, and plan to have a site for international coverage indexed in GN within the month.

I'm also not having a lot of luck with Adsense, but a big part of that is ad targeting - it doesn't seem to do a great job making them relevant to the featured story.

My next plan - and already mentioned here by bizzykehl, along with other good advice - is set up the site so it posts more targeted ads depending on the category, although I'm hoping I can drill down even harder and set it up so each page posts ads targeted to whatever that particular news story is about. CPL, CPS, CPA.

Is your site indexed in Google News? You could add even more traffic to it, if so.
And are you writing your own news or do have writers for that?

Thanks for starting this thread - there are others here doing news sites and monetizing is probably the biggest struggle.

Hell, Huffington Post gets about 5 million per month, doesn't pay many of its contributors, and still claims to have not made a profit! :)

YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.

Nice video though... that's what it's all about, enjoying peace and time with family while everyone's rushing to their office and sitting in meeting rooms listening to the boss bullshit them about productivity.

It's really not about luxury cars, private jets and high-class hoes, although...

I thought original post was a joke when I read "according to Quantcast and Alexa I get about a third more than John Chow." But this ooks seriofs... continue.

honestly, you need to implement facebooks open graph and use that to target and optimize via demographics and such, Once you have a decent base on what types of users you have you can then learn what to market to them. I am not saying you do this directly with the information you would be able to gather from facebook. It will though help you figure what could work best.
