Please don't try to put Bush raising taxes for those making above $82k on the same level as health care though. While I don't agree with what Bush did with raising taxes, it certainly was not and is not on the same level as this multi-trillion dollar bullshit health care we are about to have.
But are you trying to imply over the course of time Conservatives spend typically the same amount as Liberals have? If so, LOL.

New taxes, not renewing previous tax cuts, additional taxes on things like cigarettes and beer. They will definitely get some sort of tax hike passed now, and then fuck us next year with the cap and trade bullshit. I forced my wife to cancel her tanning membership, because I refuse to pay that tax, what the fuck is next?

Germany has a trade surplus, is supporting the Euro, and doing it all with socialized medicine in a heavily unionized system.
That people have reduced the "health" of an economy based on it either being a welfare state or free market misses the point... imo.

I probably should have clarified further what I meant by spending, entitlement programs. That is what I dislike about the liberal party, they are notorious for increasing spending on that. For me things like the war in Iraq (success or failure) is a whole lot more justified than spending hundreds of billions a year on lazy ass people who don't want to work.

The key word there would be "almost." It was Clinton who signed welfare reform, for example. When in control, the Republicans have the opportunity to eliminate programs or maintain the same funding levels. Guys my age, I understand. A lot of us were brought up in households that were all about donkeys and elephants. That's hard to set aside. But I thought you people were younger and less invested in that stuff.

Oh in no way am I defending Republicans for every action they make. But in my opinion in terms of raising spending they were trying to fix a broken system. We can all agree medicare has some serious issues (if it didn't, why would we need this national health care garbage), so they were attempting to mend a broken system, and to do that they thought it needed more money. Was that right or wrong or did it help, who knows. But I think it was a political move because I think if a lot of Republicans had it their way they would've completely done away with it, but doing so would have pissed a lot of people off. So instead of letting whatever we spend on health care go to waste they were probably thinking let's spend an extra 10% and make it work. But hey I'm not a rep of congress so I obviously cannot say for sure that is what they were thinking, but that is how I see it.
It won't work and will just be what it currently is with a few extra rules and regulations and some other redundant programs. You won't even see the benefits Obama was highlighting for a few years.
No one is denying that the health care system we have needs fixing. However, it didn't need to be "rushed" and didn't need to be passed if over half the country said no to the current proposal.
If he really wanted to fix the whole system, he'd have taken polls about what people want, what people didn't like, then spend a year researching all the current programs available. Then evaluate their costs and benefits, figure out which are redundant, eliminate the crap and then build up from there.
I guarantee you, if the redundant programs and wasteful spending were eliminated - you'd have more than enough to fund whatever you wanted to improve and build upon many times over.
What has happened is just unneeded debt. That's not me fuming about Obama either. I'd be pissed off at anyone pushing crap like that.
