But the talk about eliminating the Pro Bowl has me giddy. All I have to say is, about time! The game sucks ass. The players don't play, it means nothing, it's just a circle jerk.

I won't miss it that's for sure. I haven't watched it in years, basically because every time I had, I've wanted to kill myself by time it was half time.
 


I'm all for eliminating the pro bowl, but they should keep the skills challenge. That was something I actually enjoyed.
 
Pro Bowl was only really good for the Hawaiians anyway. It was their only opportunity to see NFL football.

Personally, as a non-NFL fan, if I had to choose between a pair of tickets to a Superbowl or a pair of tickets to a Pro Bowl, I'd take the Pro Bowl and a trip to Hawaii every time.

That said, the only sport that has a good all star game is MLB.

If you haven't watched it in years then why do you care if it stays or goes? I also would like to see the skills challenge stay.

But the pro bowl is fun to watch the players that take it serious like when Sean Taylor, RIP, laid out the punter.

I'm all for this. Make it an Honor and a monetary thing to be named. You can't play this game w/o being physical, there's no point. In all other pro sports you can play an All-Star game w/o being physical, including hockey. You can't do that in Football w/o insulting the game.

Hockey All-Star games are a joke.

Basketball All Star games are a party amongst the players. Not like the older days when the Likes of Jordan, Bird, Isaah, Magic *hated* to lose.

Baseball can pull it off.

I watch football, I listen to sports radio, believe me you, I hear about it. Every year it's the same shit.

The only reason MLB All-Star games are taken serious by the players is because it decides who has home field advantage in the world series.

They could do the same thing in Hockey and Basketball to make their all-star games watchable.

Wouldn't work in football though because the Super Bowl is on a predetermined neutral site and the game is just too physical.

While it's true that the added stipulation to the game has made it more meaningful, baseball's all-star game has always been enjoyable (in as much as fan can enjoy an exhibition game that is).

Hockey is also too physical of a game to make watching the all-star game worthwhile....it's just glorified shinny hockey. The skills competition in hockey are actually fun, but the game is bland when you remove the physicality of it.

Hockey would be tough because nobody wants to injure another player in an exhibition game.

No goalie wants to "go all out" and risk getting hurt to make a big save.

The most interesting part of this years all star game was giroux trying to trip hartnell.

Also any player who is playing in the Super Bowl will not be playing in the Pro Bowl (since it's the week before the Super Bowl).

Isn't that already a rule? I think it is.

I really don't know what the NFl could do as an exhibition. Clearly the actual Pro Bowl sucks, for all the stated reasons. And any variation, like a rookie game or something of that ilk would still suffer for the same reasons.

Anyway that the NFL could partner with the NCAA and have some sort of NCAA game be played during Pro Bowl weekend? Have NFL coaches, and even some players on the sidelines mentoring the kids?

I know it's a real shame. He was such an exciting player to watch and easily top 5 safety at the time.

I don't think it's a rule, its just common sense that you won't be going to the pro bowl if your team is in the super bowl. Who would do that? It was better when the Pro bowl was after the super bowl.

Maybe if they didn't have so many rules in the pro bowl game, then people would take it serious. I understand you are trying to protect the players, but don't complain when no one is trying because they can't blitz so many players or when LB's can only cover.
 
They were considering putting in some kind of incentive like they have in MLB, but it's hard to find a meaningful incentive, and it would have to be for something the following season. Maybe if the winner gets guaranteed home games the next season for all inter-conference games. Every team has 2 or 3 of those in a season.

There was also a rumor going around about eliminating kickoffs. How you gonna tell somebody kickoff is at noon, when there are no kickoffs?
