I may get scammed out of $1600

Incorrect - seller loses most every time with paypal regardless of the address sent to or if you have tracking

I have enough experience to know.

My experience is from the exact same thing happening twice this month... Maybe you should read the rules a bit more...

I have, however, lost that battle with Amex in the past, but they credited my account back for the amount. Customer got money (and product), I got full chargeback amount back, and Amex took the loss. (I guess they are customer friendly on both fronts!)

Credit Card chargeback trumps over EVERYTHING. I've been though, and have seen many cases where a credit card chargeback will reverse the charges no matter the circumstance. If it's a digital product, you're 100% screwed. If it's a physical product, then you better have a tracking # + solid proof that the card holder actually sent the payment, not someone else. Otherwise as soon as that chargeback comes through, Paypal will never pay it out of their pocket without at the very least send you to collections. If you have a bank account attached to your paypal account, I'd recommend removing it if you plan to keep the money no matter what.

In the OP's situation, sending a Fedex package right now with the tickets will only help you if the buyer opens a dispute within Paypal. If the buyer decides to dispute the charge with the CC company, then that Fedex package will do jack shit for you.

Yeah I figure that about the cc chargeback. I have No bank account attached. Probably will cancel my cc attached.

Just in case, I do have my fedex slips ready.

These 2 women will be receiving their tickets real soon.

note to anyone who might be in a paypal situation in the future:

Make sure you turn off all your subscriptions that automatically deduct from paypal. I read paypal can charge you for negative funds if they "piggyback" on another charge.

I'm not sure if I would get screwed in this scenerio, but it would really suck to have a $12 monthly subscription turn to $1612

Seriously, whats up with all the chargeback misinformation in this thread?

When you are covered:
Your transaction is marked either eligible or partially eligible. You can check the status on the Transaction Details page.
Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal account, is in the United States.
The item is a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.

The only two things that can fuck him, are:

Ship within 7 calendar days of being paid by the buyer.

For payments over $250 USD (or local currency equivalent, including shipping and tax), be sure that you have signature confirmation of delivery

Eh you could be fucked. The problem with digital products on both Ebay and Paypal is there is very little protection against the buyers just saying I didn't receive the product. It really sucks for sellers, but I guess a tracking number is the only way Ebay and Paypal can honestly and effectively close so many disputes. I'd give this some serious thought.

One question though: Why aren't you going to these games?

Good luck with everything :)

Thanks!

I am an out of state season ticket holder. But from Chicago and a huge bulls fan.

I will probably make a trip to go to a game if they make the finals. Going to a potential title-clinching game would be ideal.

BTW Addison, not sure if you remember me from last year. But I ordered your Buzzups (excellent service btw) for my Lebron to the Bulls package.

On a side note, that's quite the interesting CC fraud laundering scheme.

1) Buy oversold digital tickets with stolen Paypal account.
2) Sell tickets digitally under a different Paypal account.

The interesting part, is the ticket will still work for whoever buys it, and they have no way of getting in touch with the buyer when they attend the event. If the ticket does get voided, the seller apologizes, and refunds the ticket, no harm done to their seller reputation.

The only reasonable way to catch the scammer, would be to have undercover police checking tickets, identify the scammed ticket, and question the buyer about which Paypal account they sent the money to. Switch up accounts and run the scam internationally, and the chances of being prosecuted are incredibly low. If the tickets were bought within a week or the event, there is even less chance of the ticket being voided.

I wonder what measures will be eventually taken to stop the scam? It's not like they'll stop doing digital tickets anymore...

As I mentioned though, I did change the barcode of the tickets.

The question now is.. What do I do with Wednesdays tickets?

I don't want things pinned on me for selling the tickets twice. Like I said though, I may just donate them to a kid's charity.

Find an AM or business contact in Chicago, and send them the tickets.

Sell them outside the game. (Scalping in Chicago might get you a ticket?)

Have someone trusted you know sell them on stubhub using their own Paypal account.

Trade them to a hooker/stripper for a BJ.

Thanks!

I remember the site. You're one hell of a dedicated Bulls fan then. I'm a massive Celtics fan but since the Heat took 'em out I'm a Chicago fan for the rest of the playoffs.

I'd absolutely cream if it ends up being a Bulls/Thunder finals

I'm a Lakers season ticket holder (go ahead and rail me for the collapse this year) and I had the exact same thing happen to me with my tickets for the Dallas series.

I guarantee you that those are bogus based on my experience...

Here are the emails I received from the scammer (emails * since I know some of you will add to your lists :)

Hello! Just paid through paypal, please send them at your earliest convenience!
My address is **@hotmail.com, thank you!
Michael.

Craig.

Do those look familiar. Once I realized these were bogus I refunded the money back to the paypal accounts so I wouldn't have any issues.
I was lucky and never sent my tickets because it was all too fishy. The first time the guy who bought was in Wisconsin and the second time he was in Florida and owned a $150k house so I knew he wasn't going to pay $800 for Lakers tickets in LA. Both times the scammer paid way too much with buy it now, had zero feedback, and were too far away to go to game imo.

PM if you want to ask any other questions.

I use stubhub. But I have better success with ebay. With ebay you can stand out with keywords, headlines and a nice sales pitch in the ad.

With stubhub you standout if you have the best price.

So if you are a good seller/marketer I'd say ebay is better.

.

They are not pulling this off for free seats. They are reselling them. Pretty positive of that.

ya i figured dude, i was just tryin to get a laugh. Thats a bum deal though for sure. I suppose id get a hold of paypal and see what they could do for ya. But other than that i wouldnt know what else to do. Good luck with all that.
