So Cal
Hello all,
I just wanted to talk about my plan and get feedback, I have been researching aff marketing for like 6 months and I still have a lot of questions. I want to create a lot of “niche mini sites” like one page with quality content and very simple banners and text ads. I have been semi successful with PPC, keyword research and I have a decent grasp on S.E.O. My main issue has been actually creating the mini websites, I have no problem writing the content for the sites but I get lost in html, php, databases and all the technical stuff. Once I have all of the content written would it be a good idea to hire someone to build the sites? If you think I should do it myself, what content management system should I use? Is there anything out there simple enough for someone with no technical knowledge? Where could I go to learn this stuff, besides college of course.

I have my niches picked and a lot of my content already written, more questions…anywhere I could buy 50+ domains cheaper?

Is any of this even a good idea?

Sounds like you are where I was about a year ago. There's a steep learning curve and I'm still in it but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

If you want to build a bunch of niche mini sites, if they are even remotely related, why not buy just one .com "umbrella" URL and put each mini-site as a sub-domain? Additionally, if you did go that route, you could look into Joomla, an open-source CMS that is robust enough to handle the load.

Finally, even though I am no fan of GoDaddy, if you use them for hosting, uploading Joomla is as easy as clicking one button from GoDaddy's backend.

Try it yourself first

Actually, installing most of the CMS systems is not hard.

You just have to read the instructions.

Seriously, why pay someone for it, when you can get up to speed with wordpress in 10 minutes?

If you really want to hire someone for it, so you can do other stuff, OK.
If you are looking into paying for it because you feel you can't do it, DON'T! It's not so hard, really.

A lot of hosts also have "1 click installs" for a lot of the usual software out there. (Wordpress, for example)

HTML is also no problem. Learn a bit of it (will take the average guy about 1 weekend) and you can do alot with it.

HTML Tutorial

As a CMS for mini-sites, take a look at website baker.

godaddy still has .99$ infos (I jut got one)
I would use wordpress for each minisite because:
it's extremely easy to use
it doesn't require any html knoweledge
you can install it in a single click from any CPanel host and almost any host, even if they donì't use CPanel offer some sort of installer
as geekcognito said, if your sites are related you can grab a .com and create some sort of small network/branding a la about.com
wordpress has literally thousands of excellent themes, I am a designer myself but wtf, you can use them for free so why spending time designing when you can just import a premade one...
I never used joomla but if I'm not wrong it's an evolution of mambo, I have been using mambo a couple of years ago, and it was a real mess and overkill
think about what geekcognito said, I think that if your sites are related his idea of subdomains is really good

couple of things, you guys FUCKING ROCK MY SOCKS, that was some quick help.
not to sound like an idiot (little late) but what hosts will install wordpress with one click? because I have been to the site after I saw how well you guys do with it, but once I unzipped the files i was instantly lost, I went and read the directions, it seems that I have to already have a host to install it? is this correct or am I missing something? I have read negative feedback about godaddy but 99 cent domains seem very tempting and I havent heard alot about joomla but if its easy to install and use Im all there. again you guys kick ass for your help

Dreamhost is one.

Althought there have been reports of bad service with them, I never had a problem.

Want a link to sign up under?

:D

oh and I was thinking each with its own domain for SEO purposes but many of the sites are related so I might go that root, again thanks for the advice

Yeah godaddy isn't great. but their interface is pretty cut-and-dry so I recommended them just for the simplicity alone. However, if you're just going to dive in, go with a host with C panel. I've heard good and bad about dreamhost. Personally, Hostgator has always been good to me.

For the 1 click install, pretty much any host with Fantastico will allow a pretty idiot proof install...

In the cPanel for your hosting, look around on the main panel and its usually near the bottom, youll see a button with a smiley face called "Fantastico", once you click that, you will see a screen full of links to different systems and web apps that you can easily install, for instance, when installing wordpress, I think theres only a total of 6 text boxes you enter info into, theres no uploading files, setting permissions, etc.

As far as hosting is concerned, I agree with geek, Hostgator has a very good rep - Call me wierd but I use a host called DevotedHost for my reseller account, Ive yet to have an issue or any downtime and they have a hell of a rep on WebhostingTalk

I agree with all the above. I am focusing on niche markets too at this stage but putting more into them than just a one pager.

A CMS really is not needed if you were to only be building one page sites. I would not recommend it (one pagers) if you are trying for SEO traffic.

My sites average 30 pages each. I would also not reccomend putting all my niche sites under "one umbrella" as you more than likely want to get some keyword rich domain names dedicated to your niche.

Name Cheap is the best IMO and I currently use them. The reason I like them so much, a thing called Free Whois Guard. So you dont have to pay extra ($5) for domain name owner protection.

If you are looking to make one pagers would int be best to just make a landing page style template

What are your goals? What are your markets? Will you be using ppc and seo for these sites?

As for Databases, what would you be needing a database for on a one page site?

Niche marketing is very profitable and you are on the right track. All your questions will be answered here in these forums already, just read read read.

Keep us updated on your progress.

Wordpress could be installed in ... like... 10 minutes on any host. Number of domains (50+) usually doesn´t matter unless you are buying the existing domains from just one seller.

The niches I am working on are, Mixed martial arts (specifically fight picks and fight theory), pitbulls and the other bully breeds (kennels and breeding lines), wieght training and diet for the skinnier guys who want to add weight and big muscle but struggle, Travel focusing on extreme adventures (skydiving, bungee jumping,
zorbing and so on), parkour, a peace of mind website (focusing on living in your passions and "not letting the bastards grind you down") poker, gambling, and grown ups toys ( gadets, dirtbikes/ atvs/ offroaders, cars and actual toys), and medicinal maryjiuna:rasta: just to name a few things I like to write about.

I know that this will require more than a one pager for most of these but I will probibly start with the one pagers just so I can get something up. as always thanks for all support and any advice is appreciated

shit and how I was thinking of getting traffic is probibly PPC to start, especially tha one pagers with text ads and aff links and heavy article marketing to provide a more constant flow and better SEO, hmm goals I really dont know! right now my main goal is just to get this shit off my notepad and onto the internet! that would be great!... and databases were just thrown in there ajay because I dont understand them, as you noted I guess i wouldnt need them if I did one pagers

That actually sounds like you have a lot of topics on your hand where it should be easy to pump out 10 pages just for a start.

Start with the navigation pages and you are half done.

Example: wieght training and diet for the skinnier guys who want to add weight and big muscle but struggle

The light gray pages are content pages that will be done later.

Index (Overview, links to special articles)
Weight training (Overview)
- How to choose a gym
- Equipment
- ...

Diet (Overview)
- Diet plans
- ...

Contact Page
Sitemap

So with just a very, very basic structure, you already have 5 pages.
index, weight-training, diet, contact, sitemap

To true EMP, vary hard to only make one page when building these sort of sites. You can very easily rack up 10 or 20 pages in no time at all. Heck i did the same thing with one of my sites, thinking i would be happy with 5 pages, well 50+ pages later in less than a month its getting well indexed and as new things happen within this particular industry up goes a new news page.

You so sound like you have quite a few areas to develop. I would suggest just tackling one at a time, i found i was doing the same thing, but little was getting finished, there is a good feeling from finishing off one site then seeing it start making you money and knowing all you have to do is replicate it. But remember to record your results so you know what does and does not work (its no good saying ok this site is not making money) but why isnt it making money.

Any way keep us posted.

Well first of all I appreciate the mention several times on this forum. I had been wondering why people were coming to our site from here and I decided to register and find out.

Anyways my thoughts on the subject at hand we have quite a few customers in your same situation using dozens of cPanel based hosts. They have 0 technical knowledge and all they do is make use of Fantastico to install wordpress. I was surprised the first time I talked to one to find out they had no idea about anything besides their SEO related activities. They did not know any HTML or PHP or any technical things at all. So just find a solid host using cPanel and Fantastico and it should be a 1 click wordpress install.
