I need sleep bro.

Try not going on the computer before bed. I find if I go computer > bed I find it hard to sleep, usually takes me at least an hour. If I wind down with a beer/cup of tea and a cigarette while watching some casual TV I go to sleep fairly quickly, 10-30 minutes I'd say.

def share the insomnia problem ive had a love/hate relationship with it for like the past 8 or 9 years.. i like being up late and i get soooo much done but not being able to sleep when i have to sucks..

my suggestions
-Nyquil way better than benydryl and it works great, downside is its not something your going to want to take on a regular basis...
-weed well it just plain works..
-1-2 beers or a good glass of scotch does the trick if i just ate and am already kind of tired..

if drugs/alcohol is not your thing then just make sure the room is as dark as humanly possible and try to meditate or just do something to clear your mind.. my #1 reason i can't sleep is im to busy thinking about what i need/want to do today/tomorrow/ blah blah blah..

Alcohol, valium, ambien, weed, benadryl ... take your pick. Just switch it up so you're not taking/doing the same thing every night. Basically you have anxiety issues. If it get to the point where it's seriously affecting the quality of your life, go see a doc.

OK, I guess I need to spell it out then.

  • Stop looking at the clock
  • Stop thinking about how soon you have to wake up
  • Stop thinking "I have class at 8am"
  • Stop thinking "I really should get to sleep"
  • Stop "getting up to check the time a little while later knowing you've been up the whole time, and finding out it's now 6 AM"
  • Stop constantly switching up your routing like "changing things in my diet like removing caffeine, increasing/decreasing frequency of meals, not eating within 4-5 hours of going to sleep, etc."
You can't sleep because you're trying too hard and thinking about it too much. If it's late and you need to get to sleep got to YouPorn, squeeze one out and lay down. Night night.

There's the solution right there. :)

Seriously though, I used to be the same way. Drowned by thoughts of what I have to do and losing sleep over it. Clear your mind and let yourself pass out for a chance.

It's hard to not worry about going to sleep when you know you can't. Telling someone with anxiety 'don't worry about it' isn't the solution. It's innate in their genetic makeup, they WILL regardless.

Take half a xanax, valium, your body will relax enough so sleep can begin. Or, try Lunesta. Just don't get hooked on the stuff, it's addictive in the sense it WILL put you to sleep, but if you try and go 4-5 hours on it your day will be fucked up. In general, use it as a last resort.

I agree with all the advice on physical activity, etc. but the guy can't just go to the gym, work hard, and expect to sleep that night. It will take awhile for your body to adjust to the new stresses you're putting on it. In fact, you probably WONT sleep as your bod will be in shock for a few days. That's ok, ride it out. Ultimately, the workouts will reduce the stress levels that are keeping you up and you'll fall into a new rhythm where your head hits the pillow and that's all she wrote.

But, if the stress of sleep is causing you anxiety, severe strain, see a Doc, get xanax, or lunesta, etc. and get some sleep for a few days. Your psyche will be relieved that there is a pill you can take that will let you actually sleep. Continue with the workouts, push hard, and you'll be sleeping naturally.

Valerian root, etc. is a bunch of hooey in my opinion. It works if you have mild insomnia or arent really stressed about sleeping (my opinion). If you have heavy insomnia, it won't do crap.

Good luck, let us know how you progress!

(BTW in the past when I had insomnia, I'd get up and go into the home office, and got some serious shit accomplished. I figured if I was gonna have it, I might as well do stuff I'd always wanted to do. Of course, I was a zombie the next day. But I've been lucky in that when I have a night of insomnia, I'm so zoned/tired the next day I always fall asleep the 2nd night early, then the 3rd night it comes back, etc. I've never had it more than one night in a row)

If you have a real severe medically diagnosed insomnia problem, then you're probably right. Besides Valerian root isn't for inducing sleep, it's for relaxation, which is why it's best paired with melatonin to actually induce the sleep. Every insomniac is different. I happen to be one of those people who just can't relax their body, I shift and move (I'm a flopper so I'm told) and when I am able to finally physically relax then I'm usually asleep within the next few minutes. It just sometimes takes a couple of hours to get there. Reading helps too it distracts me from moving and fidgeting, and distracts my brain enough to allow it to gradually shut down.

And whatever you do don't take a Seroquel. I took one of those once cause my buddy told me it would help me "relax" and I felt like I got hit by a bus for nearly 2 days.

Also, don't do anything in your bed other than sleep. Like for me personally, I'm not even in that room unless I'm sleeping. My bed has one function, sleep. And that's it.

I always recommend staying away from drugs for pretty much anything. You'll just become dependent on them. And most have side effects. Do things naturally if you can.

What actually works for me is EATING A TON. You mentioned you tried not eating to get to sleep.. that's the opposite of what you should do. Think about how tired you are after a thanksgiving feast.

So
1. Work out like a crazy bastard. Not just some lazy-assed workout. This works well for anxiety too, if that's the prob.

and if that does not work..

2. Eat like a crazy bastard 1-2 hrs before you want to sleep.

listen good....get Periactin.it is a pill.

take one an hour b4 going to bed...

youll sleep 10 hours and wake up hungry as a bear.......best shit ever to gain muscle ...
