[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0mUPr68x2U]YouTube - Baby Swimming Survival Video[/ame]

very, very cool.
education vs. protection -- this training beats the hell out of pool fencing laws.

for others interested:

This video is for a new survival course for infants and todlers from YMCA. These courses have saved babies from drowning all over Florida. Every infant should take a course like this, especially if you have a pool.

I am actually sitting at the pool right now and watched a 3 year old jump in with his moms back turned (while another girl grabbed him). I don't think most would be as fortunate as ^ if a parent wasn't around. I always hawk eye my nieces and nephews. One of the scariest things to me.

Drowning is the #1 cause of accident related deaths in children ages 1-4. This video is gold, I had no idea a baby could do that. This baby is actually older then some of the others I saw on youtube. There was one as young as 6 months.

I'm not so concerned, as we have no pool at the house, more just interested in getting him to feel natural in the water. The younger the better.

I know a couple who went through this for real (in Florida) with a 2 year old. Kid is now a veg. Too bad because it may have been a legit accident but everyone knows mom as such a self-centered bitch that most people I know believe she totally blew off the kid duties for something selfishly stupid.

My son was swimming the dog-paddle before he was even 6 months... and yet he oddly enough seems to forget it all over again every summer. At almost 8, we're still having to reteach him every summer.

That was amazing. One thing I make sure of is that my kids know how to swim as soon as possible. But that kid was a fully-clothed toddler!

i actually saw a 7 month old use this technique while my daughter and I were at disney world two years ago. It was amazing. I talked to the mother and she told me about the video series that she used. Her 2 year old was swimming like a fish as well.

wow, a bit weirded out by the video, because they let the kid just float there for 5 minutes. impressive technique though.

how about instead of teaching your kids to roll on their backs when they jump in just teach them not to jump in the fucking pool in the first place. problem solved.

my mother taught me how to swim when I was a baby... I learned it so early that I don't even remember learning it... it has made it seem like swimming was a natural sort of instinctive thing as far back as I can remember...

if I ever have kids I will definitely teach them to swim from a young age...
