Ideas for $10K

So I have been off the net for sometime, working on my offline business which is doing pretty well. I don't completely want to let my web skills slide so I am considering investing $10K into something, maybe just buy an established site?

I will be looking to get kick-started in January, you guys have any ideas on something long-term/scalable?

I have considered that, also setting up crack-den franchises. in the long run it doesn't make sense though.
 
So you want to buy something to get hands on with, or something which has some what passive income?

Websites are always extremely risky investments, so to make the risk and reward work it's normally best to establish your own.

I'd say over 50% of the websites people buy into become worthless over the next 12 months.
 
Something passive, but like you say I am not looking to gamble it on a site that won't hold long term

What do you think is responsible for the high failure rate?
 
Use your $10k to build authority sites. You won't even need to use all $10k.

$100 - $200 for a unique theme, and the rest of the money for fucking fantastic content. Don't spend much time or money on linkbuilding, just do the basics like a directory submission and a one-time SB blast. Then post 3 - 5 articles / day. You can find great writers here at WF or search for your own and hire individuals.

Do your own keyword research. I'll assume you know how and what to look for?
 
Instead of buying established for 10K you could better spend 100-500$ on building one and 9.5K promoting it. Like someone said often there are some "stuff" hidden with established sites that you might overlook. When you priduce and market it from scratch you know what you have and that is solid.

Exactly, if I was going down the route of buying a site at 10k I would be going through it with a very fine comb and looking at the possible longevity of the site, not just a niche thats going to run out when the next best product comes along.

Starting from scratch may be an option but I really need to keep my focus on my offline business, only recently < 6 months we have taken on new contracts with blue-chip clients and I will constantly be looking to expand it and need time for it. Not to mention I also enjoy it.
 
If it isn't a conflict of interest, set something up in tandem with your offline business. since you have something already working, setup a partner site for your business and really monetize. Then like super said invest the rest in promoting.
