Ok, this is extremely gay, there is some idiot that came in and compete with an offer that I'm promoting... And in his ad he implies that there is something wrong with the product, of course this gets good CTR but conversion sucks. So he is fucking it up for everyone, I mean it's not like he's following up his claim, it's just like saying your mother is a ho to a police officer, of course they'll respond but not necessarily if you favor...

He is probably experimenting with it. It may be the case that he had a successful campaign using this type of advertisement and now he's trying to build up traffic.
Not very convenient for the rest of you guys, but if he ranks better then you, even with a lower conv rate probably he still brings more numbers to the table because of the higher traffic.

If I were you, I'd try the same thing in another niche - you might be surprised.

I'm a n00b at IM, but in my experience of face-to-face selling, starting off by being negative and trying to persuade your prospect not to buy the product is very effective. 9 times out of 10, they "buy the fight", and start telling you why they want it.

If his conversion sucks, you should be able to bid more than him.
If not, his conversion probably doesn't suck, and you should stop whining.
And btw, you are probably talking about me ;) j/k.

The 'You can't have it close' can be effective for some products - especially products that appeal to a consumer's sense of arrogance/vanity such as weight loss, dating, self improvement, etc. If you make them feel it's NOT for them, it makes them feel as if you're telling them they're not good enough to be in that exclusive club - hopefully they bite and 'prove you wrong' by buying.

hence Lipozene commercials "This product is only for people who need to have serious weight loss"

I'm trying to think of other fun variations on that.
"Skinny People Only Dating"
"Get out of here you fat fucker!"

Now more curious: how do you know the other person's conversion rate?
(Assuming that your AM doesn't share that information with you)

i think he's guessing at that (and if this skimmer is outranking him for a while i'd say he is getting good enough conversions) ;)

Stop crying, his conversion rates don't suck that's why he is doing it. I've taken the same angle before and it works very well.

Ads like

Your Mother Sucks
We Have a Better One
Try Her Today for Only $4.99

get very good CTR. If you can get the traffic to convert (and you should be able to, assuming it's a good offer) then you've got a nice winner.

I have also found that negative Ads help you stand out from the crowd, often people see 10 Ads all saying how fucking great a product is they think it's bullshit, they see an Ad that says this product is dog shit and they click there to find out why, this is a genius way to stand out from all the other idiot marketers.

And of course, then you give them the hard sell on your landing page on why the product really is uber awesome !

Basically OP, you fail.

Yeah I call bullshit. There is no way for this guy to know conversion rates without being on the inside.

Ah, interesting discussion, I guess my rant wasn't useless after all :)

I KNOW the conversion sucks because I copied him to check the CTR and conversion. I make a lot better ROI with my approach.

I also realize I should just get over this and adapt, if anything I learned a lesson really. But I felt like ranting anyways...

If your ROI is better why not just up your bid? you should be able to top him easily.

When you say copy do you mean the ad and the landing page and content on it? Because if you only copied the ad you won't get the same effect..
