I'm into month four without smoking cigs. No E-cigs, no meds, no nicotine at all. And yeah I smoked virtually my whole life. But the past two nights I have been Really Dying for a smoke.

My question is if I lit-up would I be right back where I started or would I be ok when I woke up in the morning? Fwiw I really don't have many cravings anymore, but like I said last night and tonight - Damn.

So what you think WF?

Boobs for you expert advice...

cigarettes are the only legal good that if used as intended, will kill you. but it kills you very slowly. i read somewhere that each cigarette takes 15 minutes off your life statistically.

it's not like shooting heroin where the wrong dose can kill you instantly (i know nothing about hard drugs, just using this as an example).

so have a few cigs if you're really dying as long as you have the willpower to go off them again tomorrow.

Addiction sux, thanks.

yes you will basically begin the cycle of nicotine addiction again.

i've been smoke free for about 2 years now ... i'll never let myself smoke again because i'll very quickly go back to the pack a day habit

Try a no will power approach by reading The Easy Way To Quit Smoking by Allen Carr. I used to smoke for 8 years and had my last cigarette when I finished reading the last page of that book. No problem, cold turkey. I smoked half a pack a day

It doesn't use scare tactics like most quitting resources rather it takes all the main common beliefs smokers have about why they enjoy smoking and tells you why those reasons are not actually true (sounds weird) but once you see the light you don't have to use willpower to abstain...

Kind of like if you were chasing a hot girl, and believed you couldn't live without her, she was the one...she was so hot and did everything you liked to do etc etc...and then you reached down and found out she had a dick...

For most of you..eh..maybe some of you..you would not need to abstain or use willpower to stop chasing her.. you would just stop after you saw the light

Yeah, that is what I suspected, ok I won't smoke. Thanks 'preciate ya.

I know the fact that I'm drinking right now isn't helping me much either - lol. But hey - no ho's, blow or cigs I mean wtf!

I knew I wouldn't be able to quit smoking without controlling my drinking either..so I actually quit drinking first by reading the drinking version same author. Same thing had my last drink with that book...read the smoking one 3 days later and had my last cig that was 4 years ago...

Change my life actually...

Always wondered what this book said I never smoked but curious as to why people recommend it so much

If you haven't smoked in four months, then you have a cigarette, when you wake up in the morning how long has it been since you have had a cigarette? You either quit or you don't. As soon as you let yourself slip you are no longer in the process of quitting. If you really, truly want to quit then never smoke again, period.

I've used the pill a couple times and it worked great. Now the doctors won't give me the pill cause of other meds I'm on for pain.

I started smoking cigars like cigarettes again after a bachelor party I wound up taking the extra cigars rather than throwing them away and started smoking again after a 3 year gap.

The pill was great, continue to smoke for a week while taking it, stop smoking day 7, after 3 months stop taking the pill and no desire to smoke.

Once you have stopped smoking, no more cigarettes ... not even a single cigarette.

I stopped smoking about 1 year ago (I smoked for about 10 years before that) and haven't touched a cigarette ever since.

Yes, an overdose can kill you, as will an overdose of ibuprofen, but aside from that there is really no physical damage done by heroin in and of itself. It is actually a very clean drug, provided it is used properly (sharing needles with hookers is generally not recommended). It just so happens to sometimes destroy people socially and economically.

OP, I don't think lighting up again will set you back to four months ago, but in all likelihood you will feel like shit after you smoke.

you won't be back there straight away but you will probably end up back at square one pretty soon

I've done it several times, decided to have one after a month or two when I was really stressed out or something, then I tell myself I will just have one a day as a treat, then after a week it's one with coffee in the morning and then one after dinner, after another week it's coffee, then lunch then dinner and before you know it you're back on 20 a day

don't fucking do it, quitting gets harder every time you try, that's what I've found anyway

If your ultimate goal is to quit, I wouldn't recommend "just having one" because those are famous 'last' word (no, not 'last' in the sense you are going to die). However, if you do end up having just one, its not like you've failed or succumbed to addiction again. That is just a guilt tactic hardcore abstinence based programs use to try and keep people off their drug of choice.

IMO, its a horrible tactic because if someone does end up using their DOC once, it is obviously not going to have dire consequences on their life.. but the guilt they feel due to the fact they can't say "I haven't smoked in 108 DAYS!" because they smoked one time can often drive them to saying "Fuck it, I already blew my clean time, why not smoke another?" (You can apply this to any drug/addiction)
