I am on my fifth Dell (I blew for all five of them) and Dell is in my line up again.
Gotta go to $499 though bro.

Here is the spec you need if you are SEnuking or Xrumering etc... you want a laptop with the Intel i6 processor, that is the first in the series that supports hyperthreading.

Perfect for SEnukeX... that's around $500.. check refurbished of course as well..
I would NEVER buy a compaq (do they make them any more?) or any fucking thing from HP.

Apart from dell I am thinking about Acer.. I cant find one with an i6 though.

The processor in the Acer that I posted above is a Core i3 with hyperthreading.
