So I'll avoid directly asking it as much as possible...

But umm...

I've come to a point in my IM/AM life where I seem to have...
Completely run out of money.

I do own a business, but things are slow, and I have no money left to advertise, which is where most of my business comes from.

I tried a few things that were mentioned in some of the good threads on WF for noobies, like the "Vote" think on hot news topics (been making quite a few, all very hot news topics, good keywords, good looking graphics, very similar to the OP of that threads, spent $25 on .10 clicks, made $4)

I tried toying with the directory with a good niche, that has hardly any competition, but still no luck thus far...

Ive tried many different offers, from a few networks, and tried tricking people, or sending PPC straight to the affiliate offer, etc. and have just lost and lost and lost money...

So without directly asking... Anyone have any "good advice" they'd like to share?
haha

Or, better yet, anyone in Arizona wanna make a trade? Ill do a $450 anti theft install on your car in trade for a lil bit of guidance...

No harm in trying...

Oh, and just FYI, I know how it all goes... I know nothing is instant, and I do work my ass off, Ive completely given up stepping out of the house... And I would keep trying until something works for me, but I have literally run completely out of money... lol

If you have a fairly solid idea of how to market a site, why dont you try selling SEO or PPC management to small businesses? It isnt so fun but it is better than trying to do AM with no money. Blog and ping on blogger gets old...

Look at local businesses with a decent site, maybe some pagerank but crap page titles. Redesign them and they will think you are a god. Give you money and a reference... Always get some money up front...

Drake:
I would have already tried that, but I really suck at SEO... I really don't know much about it... I know about good keywords, and thats about it... haha
I can't even seo my own site (in my sig), and its WP based, so how hard could that be? haha

Ive read a lot of it, but really dont know how to implement a lot of the stuff I know...

Any recommended reading? lol

Sounds to me like you've been tinkering in a lot of areas without really knowing what you're doing. Easily done.

Choose something and stick with it. Keep plugging away.

If you're stuck for cash then you're going to have to get a job until you've 'worked out' what you're doing.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I think you probably knew that that was the answer already.

I have the same problem that you have. Tried a million things superficially and never stuck with one. What I now do is write a list of things that I want to get done that week and stick to it. No matter how good an idea you'll get .. stick to the list. (Write the idea down somewhere for later)

And yes I still have a dayjob. I work on my IM business at night. Sleep too little and survive on coffee ... but if that's what it takes then so be it.

Like sleepylee said ==> get a J.O.B.

(I know you probably want to hear promote this offer with these keywords and this landing page ... but that will get you nowhere in the long run)

Its kinda what everyone says but seobook.com is a good standard book. It seems a bit common sense but it might not be to you. It is not so cheap. $79 I think. I have an aff link if you want it just PM.

Or maybe break up the ideas of SEO, then research how to do each one until you are comfortable. Example:

Market Research
Competitor Research
Keyword Research
Check or fix site navigation / tech
Decide on keyphrase per pages based onsite text..
Change site urls/pic names/ header tags to match above etc.... YMMV
Create metatags to match above.
Titles absolutely the most important..
Check for broken links or images etc.
Upload
Try to get more links....

Dont do a site in AM, SEO, PPC or anythign like that first. Too tough, start as small and as regional as possible.

Do you have any friends with small companies? I might try doing SEO for them or even PPC. If you are doing it for a friend or family member you will have some pressure to get results and hopefully quickly. Of course you need to offer work cheap or free... That is how I got started and confidence. GL

Failure = experience = wisdom

You're failing, but are you learning WHY you're failing? You need to understand why and then work on it.

Starting something and then glancing to see if it succeeded or failed before moving on to something different is not going to teach you anything.

First thing's first, your bills, etc. Start up a small business installing security systems for people or get a traditional job.

Now you have bills and all in check. Set a specific amount you're willing to invest out of your income to learning more AM/SEO/whatever. Say you're going to spend a few hundred a month.. do that, learn why you failed and the month after try again. If you fail miserably, then spend the money on books, consulting, etc.

Good luck!

The beauty of working online is that money shouldn't be a major roadblock. Never let the almighty dollar come between you and knowledge. I started my internet empire with $17 in my pocket, an idea, and absolutely no fucking clue what I was doing. There are plenty of free ways to get started... you just have to be willing to do a little more research and work a little bit harder than the people with more disposable income. Learning is your best friend.

1. Build link exchanges for your sites (FREE)
2. Bum Marketing (FREE)
3. Submit your sites to certain directories (FREE)
4. Read Wickedfire (FREE)
5. Start a few blogger blogs (FREE)

The list goes on and on...

And like everyone is saying, if you're that hard pressed for cash and really want to get a jumpstart in this business, a job won't hurt you. I worked in an industry I hated for 7 years before I discovered this whole internet thing. Haven't looked back since.

Hey, thanks to all of you for the good ideas...
MyOwnDemon - I'll figure those things out and get to it...

shithappens - Isn't that the point of forums dude?
I mean, I could be wrong, but if no one asks questions, no one has anything to answer, and then discussions don't start, then others have no threads to reply to just to say it's stupid.

WF wouldn't be WF if it weren't for people like me, asking all the stupid questions so other people don't have to. :)

Sounds like it's time for a part time jobby job.

Bartending is a good choice - there's almost always jobs available, you don't need to do too much training, and you can put cash in your pocket every night (unlike a traditional job where you've gotta wait for the *paycheck*).

Good luck

Read seobook by aaron wall - you'll know more than 75% of the wingnuts out there trying to sell me on why I need more keywords in my keyword meta tag. lol.

lol... why are people telling him to sell SEO/PPC services? If he is broke now and has no direction, why would anyone want him working on their site?

I like this reply the best...
