Just throwing it out here, that I absolutely fucking hate Christmas with a vengeance. (Just add hundreds of superlatives here about it being pretentious, pointless etc.)

Even more than that, I resent the way that you're totally alienated if you express that opinion. So go ahead, alienate me, but I'm just looking for someone who shares my opinion. Anyone out there or are you all caught up in the 'Christmas Magic'?

^This.. Can't wait to see my daughter's face light up with new presents.

I loved that time of year as a kid myself, who the fuck didn't?

er.. well, I guess kids who had none :[

Seconded.

It's the one night when we all act a little nicer.
We...we smile a little easier. We...we...share a little more.

Yea, I can appreciate why people do love it, I have kids and they have an awesome time, and I do try simply for their benefit, I just needed to vent my Scrooge side. I'll quit whinin' and count my blessings!

Thanks wickedfire, you've changed my life!

xmas for me is about my daughter,, other than that I could do without it..

We are going skiing just, wife, daughter and me for Christmas.. get the fuck away from all these crazy stupid fuckers that get into a shopping frenzy and are pricks.

An affiliate marketer that hates a consumer holiday spending spree?

Christmas is just another opportunity to stack that paper

I don't need some holiday based on a fairy tale to make me act nice, smile, be pleasant, share, or give to people.

I do that shit every day, yet all the christians I know think I'm evil because I'm agnostic (they generally associate agnosticism with atheism which they somehow associate with the devil). They also think I'm a scrooge because I don't accept gifts or recognize christmas. I tell them if they *have* to spend money on me, make a donation to the leukemia and lymphoma society on my behalf and have a card sent to me. Then they say "ok, but really...what should I get you?" So meanwhile they are spending money on superficial gifts to give to friends and family - not because they really want to, but because it's christmas and that's just what you do on christmas. And they still think I'm the one who needs saving.

I hate the whole gift giving aspect of Christmas. Everyone is expecting me to buy shit for them. Sure, it was awesome as a child but at this point I have everything I need and people just waste their money on junk I will never use. I am expected to do the same for them.

It's the thought that counts, right? Wrong.

Completely with you, all the fake happiness and peacefulness just pisses me off.

Chances are if you need a special 2 week season of the year to do that you've got problems.

What makes you think it's fake? What if it just a reminder every year ? Everybody can use a reminder. Maybe we should just skip the reminder.

I don't really change during the season. But I am happy for those that do.

whole lot of

Who said that its about being saved. Its just one time of the year where we spread cheer around. Yes, I do agree that the Best Buy's and Wallmart's have fucked things up indeed but thats no reason to spoil the idea of 'giving' due to some commercial fucktards. Fuck fairytales. There are a dozen of movies around and Im sure one of them has motivated you. Find yours. I sincerely do not believe that xmas is all about commercialism, somewhere, someplace around the world, people have discovered the true meaning of the season. For the rest of us, we just need to wait till the grinch steals Christmas to realize what we have really lost.

On somewhat of a tangent- Go donate time at a shelter/civic organization this season. You will be thankful for all that you have, and the ability to create such illusions.

I wasn't saying christmas is about being saved...my christmas rant started to turn into a regligious rant.

And I don't think best buys and walmarts have fucked things up, most consumers are just as greedy as the walmarts.

The fairy tale I was referring to is religion...

I'm agnostic, why would I celebrate christmas? So, what movies am I supposed to watch to motivate me to do what, that will somehow allow me to find the true meaning of the season? Are you on drugs son?

When you have kids Christmas is amazing. Amazing time of year. I've always liked Christmas though as I get to see all my family. Only time of year everyone comes together to visit.

No doubt, of course I like to see family - that aspect is cool about christmas. My gripe is that as a society we've decided we need christmas as an excuse to do this once a year.

To translate for you christmas lovers...why not pretend it's christmas every day? Why be nice and thoughtful and giving just once a year? Treat every day like it's something special, instead of just Dec 25.
