I'm Losing Weight, Bitches! (Kind of a journal-ish post)

Low blood pressure is not a good thing. Normal blood pressure is a good thing, which a lot of people have.

well, the low side of healthy range i should have said. i lot of people are in the healthy range i understand. call the doctor, he said it not me.

Because if you lose weight other than water loss that fast then you are losing muscle as well as fat.

this is true. also if you weigh 300, losing it slow is going to help reduce any extra skin issues that are worse with rapid loss. at least thats what my bro google told me.

Broha, congrats on your "success" but don't go around saying carbs are bad for you. I went vegan almost 3 months ago and majority of my diet is high carb yet I'm down almost 20 lbs. That's from 185ish to 167ish at the moment. Animal fat and protein is what you don't need. Just sayin.

Bacon and eggs lulz good luck with that bypass down the line.

It hasn't been mentioned yet - I read this recently.

Your body burns about 20% of the energy in protein just digesting it.

For carbs and fats the burn percentage is 10%.

Also - there are carbs and then there are carbs. Numerous studies have been does with natural sugar vs. refined sugar. In one study they tested rats - they gave a control group regular table sugar and gave the test group an equal amount of calories of high fructose corn syrup.

Guess which group got fat?

Here's the study:

Princeton University - A sweet problem: Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain

Also - since I do not want to highjack this thread - I am going through something similar. I have dropped very little weight but I've traded a lot of fat for muscle by doing interval training. When I started I was running 5 minutes out of 30. Now I'm up to running 25 minutes out of 45 minutes. I have already lost a few pants sizes and I can really tell the difference in my legs.

Interval training = fat loss + muscle gain.

I know that what I am about to say is going to be partially anecdotal, but hear me out. Most vegetarians I know are overweight. My friend's mother, who is now well into her 50s ate vegetarian and mostly vegan her whole life, she now has type 2 diabetes, which is brought on by a diet of "mostly tofu, beans and rice" (her words).

From an evolutionary standpoint, it makes more sense to eat meat and vegetables than it does eating beans and rice. Beans and rice are cultivated, and farming only started about 10,000 years ago. Whereas for roughly 2 million years before that, humans relied on a diet of fat, protein, and roughage.

Plus you do the math on your own weight loss vs. mine.

You: 20 lbs over 90 days
Me: 14 lbs over 17 days

Hmmmmm.

I am sure you cut out your overall carb intake, which is why you lost weight. Vegetables are primarily carbs, but a very small amount, while the rest is fiber.

And yeah, I was vegan before. I didn't feel nearly as good as I do now.

As for your comment on needing a bypass, it's the carbs that make your LDL's more dense, thus more likely to build up and cause blockages. LDL's from fat are more "fluffy" and float through the bloodstream with no problem. Look it up.

I weighed 297. Why is it a bad idea?

Ohhh, in that case, no worries at all, and congrats to your weight loss!

It's just say if you were 170lbs, and dropped 14lbs in a couple weeks, then that probably means you gave your body a subtle shock due to diet intake, exercise, etc. So your body would have probably burned more muscle than fat (internal defense mechanism), and there's always the chance of it fucking with your internal organs depending on situation.

If you were 297 when you started though, then no worries, and I'm sure your body is saying, "thank you! thank you!". Congrats again!

I won't get into the actual diet aspect of this thread (which will no doubt turn into an argument...)

But riddle me this...

These threads come up almost every 4 weeks here. There is always a huge response. The weight loss niche is huge.

Why not take daily or weekly pics, write a short daily journal, post it up on a website and profit? Fat people love reading stuff like that. If I had more weight to lose, I would definitely do something like that. Compile your progress in report format, make it look like an "unofficial experiment", get fat people to opt in with their email to read the info, sell them shit, etc...

The opportunities are endless, but all people seem to do is post about it on forums. Get some money out of it...

Whatever the case, weight loss, no matter which way it comes, is good. Vegan, Weight Watchers, Low Carb, whatever.

Congrats and keep it up.

With regards to diet, that guy who wrote In Defense of Food sums it up pretty well: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Everything else is just complicating things. Congrats on the poundage and good luck.

17 days, and 14 lbs lost. It's been an interesting couple of weeks. June 12th is when I started my diet of eating very little carbohydrates. Since then my time has been spent tweaking my daily intake to favor fat and protein, arranging foodstuffs to suit my palate (this is of course not the least bit difficult when you can eat things like bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning), and meticulously reading nutrition labels. Just browsing through a store, I was quite amazed on how much sugar (high fructose corn syrup) is extracted from it's original form and generously placed our food. Our bodies are not well adapted for it, yet it's put in just about everything. (If you want to see a crazy example of this, just look at the bread isle...)

So, in addition to adjusting my daily eating habit, I have been reading more and more on the subject on why it's important to cut out carbohydrates from your diet, at least to a very low level. The truth is, the science is there to support the idea that a diet heavy in dietary fat and protein, and why it's favored by our bodies. It's the grains and sugars that we are not adapted to handle very well.

When humans eat grains and sugars, it causes a spike in insulin, which is what causes the storage of body fat in the first place. In a way this mechanism is quite amazing, because it's what keeps us alive (too high of blood sugar and we die). Unfortunately it also causes people to look like what they eat, a clump of doughy substance. I'm living proof of this unfortunate side-effect.

For the readers out there, here are some articles I really liked.

One good thing about increasing daily protein amounts:

This is partially why I think a diet that favors fat and protein is preferred:

I'm not a body builder, but this is a easy to read article on why being in a ketogenic state is a good thing (but not if your diabetic):

TL;DR version
I lowered my carb intake, increased fat and protein intake, and lost 14 lbs in 17 days.

Congratulations on taking steps to improve your health.

Be sure to drink lots of cold water throughout the day. It'll help curb your appetite and speed up your metabolism.
