Importing WordPress Database

Ok, so I switched hosting providers...

I created a brand new install with WordPress. I figured this would be the easiest way to get my blog up and running again. I can then upload my skins and plugins, and images folder and hope for the best...

My question is with finding the files that contain my posts. Is there a database folder that I can just get to upload with all of my posts? Because I know nothing about mySQL/phpMyAdmin to start going in there and grabbing stuff... :frenchman:

If the server that was hosting your site has PHPmyAdmin, which I think most do, go into MyAdmin, choose the database, click export>select all then go.

You can save the download to your pc, set up the new SQL database on your new server, go into PHPmyAdmin click import then browse to the text file that you saved to your PC.

Your database should now be setup and ready to go.

I had to make a similar move not to long ago and was very worried about this part of it, but it is very simple and is actually hard to mess up.

Thanks, jerxs. According to Dreamhost I should be able to access phpMyAdmin by typing my in database name.website (Example would be "mysql.website.com")

However, this does not work because my DNS records have already been switched. Is there a way I can access phpMyAdmin through IP to download the database?

Im not sure about that, you dont have access to the control pannel of the host you are leaving?

I dont know much about this subject, but I dont think the Name Servers have anything to do with a SQL database. You need to access the SQL server that the database is located on.

You should beable to reach it through url if you have it;

(eg. http://mysql8.XXXXXXX.com/phpMyAdmin/index.php), then log in with your password and username

Hopefully someone with more experience will jump in here and also try to give yah some advice or a hand.

Nope, not yet... phpMyAdmin won't import the database. I even swtiched the DNS back to Dreamhost so that I could download the files via domain URL (the only way to access phpMyAdmin according to Dreamhost)

I will have a chat with HostGator support tonight to see if they can assist.. Fantastico in cPanel creates a brand new database and I'm pretty sure the names just don't match up -- I tried to fix in the txt file that was exported but to no avail. (I'm no programmer)

Did you download the SQL statements to recreate the tables with all the data?
It shouldn't matter what your database name is - that'll just be a setting for WordPress to find your data. You just need to get the tables copied over.
