I remember making thousands per day about 2 years ago when Google (and YPN) allowed images to be placed next to their ads in a deceiving way.
Since disallowing that, my CTR (on media sites) has been terrible.
Does anyone have any tips?
I keep reading about the conventional methods of doing this such as
1) blending in text link colors to make it look like part of your site - works the best so far, but my CTR per ad unit still hovers around a poor .50%
2) place ads in most viewed part of your site - doing this already, still poor CTR.. perhaps the ads are too obvious?
3) place a 728x90 banner at the absolute top of your page - i read about this method in an ebook that i was scammed into buying... didn't really work well at all
4) place an ad at the very bottom of your site - i guess the idea here is so that when your users reach the end of your page and have nowhere else do go, they click on your ad. again, i didn't have much success
5) use the ad with the highest CTR.. the big 338x300 (or whatever) rectangle - takes up a lot of space and really doesn't do much better than the other ad methods
anyone else have any tips? i'm running out of ways to experiment
