What instantly turns you off a site so much you just have to leave?

For me, it's H1 Red Text in Times New Roman - to me that just reads "scam" or "gay (not literally) advertisement".

Pop-ups or activeX's piss me off aswell :mad:

I firmly believe 99% of all websites do not need audio. I've had this conversation many times with friends about how websites should not play music.

This is why I hate MySpace. It's not the HTML that makes my eyes bleed, it's not all the crap that users put on their page that sometimes crashes my browser, it's the music that automatically loads up when you open profiles. So annoying.

i agree i soooo hate the cheesy audio - its ok if its quality music on a music site but other than that - NOOOooooooo!!

ActiveX can be almost anything.
One of my sites has a "display: inline; display: none" javascript function to show/hide a small animation, and IE categorizes that harmless function as an ActiveX control
 
oh and slow sites - if it takes to long to load - im off - ive got 8 meg broad band - imagine what it would be like with dial up
 
Those one page sales site selling some secret report or trick :)

I can't imagine if anyone falls for it :rasta:
 
for me.. the design. i like simple design..don't give me superb flash presentation when i just want to see what is your website are.. it just annoyed
