Internet on the go

I use this when I need it. It's a prepaid mobile hotspot, which is great if you travel frequently but not constantly. Sometimes I go places and find plenty of free wifi, so I don't bother with it. If I need it, I activate it for a week/month as needed and pay then. I don't know whether it works/how much it costs internationally, though, so you'd have to look into that if it's a concern.

The other benefit is that you can connect up to 5 devices, which is always nice if you travel with a friend, a Kindle, etc.

I have a couple, it's awesome. Another provider in case my main net goes down. Also great for travel. Kicks ass if I need a quick different IP from my country. Also helps me cover my tracks where I need to. It's 1 eur/day and I fill it up whenever I need it.

Can you get one of these usb sticks that offer coverage in all of europe?

This is highly relevant to my interests.

So, can someone give a qualified answer, - is some provider provides coverage all over Europe? Ideally, +UK.

I could never find one. Unlocked Huawei or ZTE turn out a pain in the ass to set up with every country provider. Two summers ago I ended up with a handful of dongles in my backpack, no kidding. Then like, okay Vodafone has its own standard so I got their dongle and buy Vodafone sim with local tariff in every country. But this is also a huge mess with all these sims, and also costly.

So, what can be done in this case?

Hi Golan,

You will need to change the APN settings depending on which network you are trying to use, but in Europe, any unlocked 900 / 2100 MHz dongle will be good for UTMS.

In terms of cheap/fixed roaming data no such thing exists for consumers yet as far as I'm aware (this will change over time as the networks shift from voicecentric to datacentric.) There are companies that work in this space but it's more for enterprise solutions atm...

Speak to Telekom (I think you're in Germany, right?) and see what they can offer you for roaming data/dongle. Might be worth the extra cost to save the hassle of sourcing multiple SIMs and changing the APN settings over constantly.

My impression has always been that businesses and services are more geared up for European wide coverage on the continent than over here, so hopefully they'll have something within budget.. Hope this helps.
