The Internet Sales Tax legislation is probably going to sail through the Senate, but could face a tougher road through the House. The law itself may be inevitable, but there are a chances to keep us out of the fray a bit longer. There are some adjustments being suggested which would increase the floor on yearly revenue before we're required to start collecting those taxes (bump from $1 million to $10 million).

Even if you don't have your own products at this point, you may in the future & you definitely don't want to be getting into sales tax collection, no matter how "magic button" they promise the process will be.

Here's a link to hassle your local legislators. Jump on it, because who knows how soon a House vote will come up.

Yea.. If you've ever set up any kind if ecomm or online payment calculator - tax can be a huge pain to integrate.

Taxing Internet use as a whole would be easier.

I love how Obama and the Democrats preach about helping middle-class, hard-working families... then push a bill that increases everyone's online purchases by x% for no reason.

I also love the bullshit line about how it's hurting small, locally owned businesses because the internet retailers don't pay the sales tax. If this gets passed, the internet retailers still aren't going to pay the sales tax, the consumers will, so I'm not sure what they're yipping about.

Hypocrites...

Fairly simple to avoid ALL TAXES, you can incorporate in any third world country, even here in Argentina, and you can receive payments in bank accounts located in safe havens. In the meanwhile you can keep paying some taxes back in the US, which will be a lot less in average.

For digital products that is all fine and dandy. In my business, manufacturers and distributors will ONLY send the products to the business's registered address. Good luck getting products sent to Argentina, then sending them back to the US, dealing with customs, two countries taxing structures, increased shipping costs, etc. lolz

All posts in this thread will get a like from me. Plz guys; sign the petition. Even if you aren't into eCommerce, plz.

You do understand that their agenda is to help themselves, not us? right?

Small business's will only be hurt as people will have less money...

P.S. Say goodbye to all major online retailers. They will be moving to another country if this passes. All those jobs will be lost. Mexican's will be working for min wage in the new warehouses located in the US.

Go obama.

Agree, there's no solution that works in all cases, but does work on most of them.

If you have a product ship from the USA. To another country. Then ship back for further production. Then ship out again for more work. Then finally back to the USA.

1 Sales tax for the purchaser.

It's a pain in the ass to be a US citizen, you have to pay taxes on all income regardless of where it's made. Also if your a U.S. citizen and have a foreign bank account you have to declare that as well.

Consumers pay the taxes at the local places, also. If people had to pay taxes on Coke purchases, but not on Pepsi, in theory this would make people more likely to buy Pepsi. But of course the best thing for Coke and Pepsi sales overall would be no taxes on either.

There are already foreign owned retailers operating in the US. If major retailers moved out of country, they would still be expected to obey the "rules." If they refused they would probably get their US warehouses or any other type of presence shut down.

In order to make this bill "fair" brick and mortar stores should check ID on each purchaser and then record the proper state to remit tax to. They won't do that...so why should online businesses? It's not fair, its killing innovation, and it's being pushed on us as a new tax. Enough is enough.

More people need to stand up and fight this bill, and call their congresspeople.

Why is it so complicated over there? A GST makes it so simple, especially with online purchases.
