Nokia Rocks the World: The Phone King's Plan to Redefine Its Business | Fast Company

fyi... myworldphone is a decent spot for unlocked cells. no connx to it.

Looks dope. I had an iphone 3g but gave it away -- no need to be connected 24/7

^^THIS is why I still don't have a fuckin cell with a browser

Access to email, scripts n stats 24/7 ? Need my time away from the computer too. Very little self control.

And ADOS. (Peter Shankman - Attention-deficit... ooo shiny!

But that N900 looks cool.

It will have the same(or less) impact as the pre...none...if anything it's converting more people to iphones...i know of four people that had the pre and switched to the iphone because of lack of apps...

Other companies are competing with more than just the iPhone, it's itunes, the app store and like it or not it's an apple and it's cool. Makes it tough to beat.

WinMo = no thanks.
Either HTC Hero or Palm Pre. I personally think i will get the Pre when it's available in europe. The pre homebrewers have done wonders and webos looks very promising to me. Pres notifications are the best in the market as is the unified messaging. Pres keyboard is also a big advantage IMO and the homebrewers have made a virtual one for landscape too. Build quality is not the best since it's a slider and the Hero wins there. Multitasking on pre is cool too. However im still not 100% sure if i should just go with android and hero. iPhone = never for me. No closed apple products ever for me.

Won't match up to Android or iPhone. They bragged about N97 and that thing sucked donkey balls.

Let's not forget they have Symbian Foundation planning an Open Source release in 2010 and this is basically a desperation move to not lose a whole dickload of marketshare to Apple and Google.

Of course most of their marketshare is low-end crap devices... but Android will be offering low-end illmatic devices come 2010 so yeah. This is hype that will fall mostly flat if you ask me.

Oh yeah, and i don't want to be associated with the kool-aid people. Will never install itunes/quicktime crap on my beloved Clevo laptop. Hate the intrusive push notifications and app store policies. No multitasking and unified messaging. So in my opinion iPhone has never even been a competitor, thus theres no challenge in the first place.

Quick and simple jailbreak solves all those problems...except the MMS and Push notification...but i personally like push over background apps. MMS should be soon so theres really not much to complain about soon...

I do like the Hero a lot also, i just hear that android is a little sluggish.

I don't like the fact that i need to do a jailbreak before the phone meets my requirements. I never had the iphone nor do i have the Hero, but my sis had a jailbroken iPhone before the Hero and i spent some time with both of them. To me the Hero was a clear winner.

Im not sure what you mean with "sluggish", but if you're referring to the lag that some people are reporting then i did'nt feel any of it and there is a confirmed patch coming for it in the upcoming weeks. The sense UI is so much more than the iPhone's UI and the build quality of the Hero is just freaking awesome. Hope you can try and feel one out, i bet you be positively surprised.

Nokia only recently opened their app store ( https://store.ovi.com/ ) late may 2009.
they'll catch up soon. they're the largest cell company.

I've had no trouble finding just about any apps for nokia, where you have to go through the iphone app store...

from the Fast Company article...
"We have since become the No. 1 cell-phone company in the world, with nearly 40% market share and 1.1 billion users. Today, Nokia is making 13 phones every second."

They're not all that strong in North America, but I think thats about to change.
