iPhone, iPAD, Macbook

Yea for sure:

iPod Touch 64GB 399.00
iPod Touch 32GB 299.00
iPod Touch 8GB 199.00
iPad 64GB 699.00
iPad 32GB 599.00
iPad 16GB 499.00

Basically you pay approximately 200-300 more for the bigger display (basically 200 more for the lowest or highest end, and 300 more if you try to go middle of the road)

A display thats what? four times bigger?...a processor that's 2-3 times better? not that it's a big deal, but wireless N...

i'd say it's expensive for what YOU would use it for, but for the technology it's not THAT expensive...

So, the next question is, are Apple computers over priced too?

If the iPad was running OSX, I would probably pick one up. With it just being a glorified iPod Touch, not touching it.

I wasn't making an assessment about it being too expensive for me or not but merely pointing out that if many of us would buy an iPod Touch for their current price, then the iPad's price increase is not that big a deal for what you get. Though it would have been nice if they added more ram to the iPad than whats currently in the latest iPhone/iPod (meaning once jailbroken or even a linux 2.6x kernel ported, it has a lot more possibilities).

IMHO, Apple's best low priced computer is the Mini. It's a very reliable little box, and I'm using my second one. It has its downsides, such as being hard to service and not especially upgradeable, but it's kind of forgotten about with all the iWhatever hysteria.

I had to buy a netbook last year because Apple hasn't anything in their line to fill my need for a light, small, inexpensive, full service laptop that is useful for work and travel.

like the post above already said, it's not trying to be a computer.. it's an 'internet appliance' of sorts.. with the full catalog of existing iphone apps + new ones that will be made thanks to the existence of the ipad..

for those of us who spend 24/7 on the computer, and are tech savvy (even the least tech savvy user here is an order of magnitude above the median) it may not make much sense

that said, i bought one.. and i have loathed apple for years. and after using it, it's very slick and will be intuitive for an average person who may not be accustomed to using technology.

i could see my grandparents or my mother using something like this fulltime, with no desire for a regular computer..

in fact, the only thing i can think of that the average 'parents' may want to do that isn't supported out of the box with this thing is to download images off a digital camera and put them on the web/email.. that said, it seems a bit of an oversight on apple's part if there isn't a way (via a dock/cable/media reader?) i'm unaware of

I personally think that this time round, the Market Positioning of iPAD is not as clear as Jobs' previous masterpiece, like iPod (music), Iphone (obviously a phone), Macbook (laptop).

iPad maybe a book reader like Kindle. Let's see how it can revolutionize our digital lifestyle again, if ever....

Its ok for typing but not great usually you'll have to hold it in one hand and type with the other it's definitely slower than normal. The apple case you can buy can help with the propping issues though.
