So i signed up for Google Plus some time back and i was the lucky few who got access! I invited a bunch of my friends and we tested it out. Well, the "Circles" is not exactly new! Facebook has em too, as GROUPS. Their plus 1 seems like a wannabe Like. Facebook is fun, flexible, addictive, informative, etc. With pages and groups, its got elements from Twitter and Google plus also! what not? Facebook has set a standard that no other Social Networking site has! Its the ultimate Social Networking site. The one thing i was impressed about Google plus was their Hangout! Its really fun, but will that be enough to compete with Facebook? What was Google thinking?

What say guys?

What was Google thinking?

$$$.

Noob. (Post count and avatar says so).

Google +1 effects SE's. Which effects rankings. Which effects the other millions of websites that aren't Facebook.

And for people who rely on SE's for income (a lot of people here) it's a big deal. For your average Google/Facebook user not so much.

I don't think it'll be competition for Facebook. Then again, with FB's declining numbers who the fuck knows.

I do think it'll be a feature of Google for a long time to come. We're just seeing the very early beginnings of social search. From G, FB and soon other players.

Within ~3 years, the Youtube vids you see, the SE results you find, most of it will be based on recommendations from people in your social circle imho.

Facebook groups, and their privacy settings, are some uber ghey shit.

Zuckerberg is a twat, and needs his nuts cut off.

Facebook is:

fun - oh noes! a cow got loose again!
flexible - lemme just export my inbox and photos... how about customize my page... nope, can't do either.
addictive - if you are a 40 year old housewife
informative - lets just check my top friends posts... "my tron bicycle in the works. fantasy grid, here i come!!", "Currently wearing hoodie and high heels. Sounds like a terrible emo band name.", "First time the group has been out in the city in a long while. I'm gonna get messy!".... curious what you consider "informative"

noob :D haha. I was looking at this from a Facebook vs Google plus point of views. But after reading your post, i am beginning to think differently. I now understand what Google meant when they said that "Google plus is an extension of Google, hence the plus".

My respect for Google just went up a notch. Wow. Thanks Scott. Im beginning to love this forum. Sad that i didn't find this earlier. Better late than never i guess.

Google is getting in every parts of our lives now.
Well, I still haven't got the invitation from nobody, I guess I will have to look further

Fun: You get to keep in touch with friends, check out what they are upto, upload and see pics, know about events, etc. What a social networking site should do.
Flexible: You can set privacy settings, create a group and add your friends and share things there, you can create a page and promote your business, you can start an event and get people to attend, if you have a blog you can integrate it with your facebook account, you can sign in a lot of website with your fb account, you can share links and get to see what others are sharing, etc.
Addictive: Its like an overload of different things that you get to see and you will want to see more because you like what you are seeing. Oh, yes thats what you call addiction.
Informative: People share links news, videos, events, pictures, etc. People who owns blogs, websites, business, media companies, etc have facebook pages which give us a lot of info. All these are data of some kind or the other. Getting them into your head is information.

Should i say more?

Your life must really suck - or you are female (and therefore an emotional crazy cunt).

I'm not so sure about that. I tested out by getting 100 plus ones to several pages that are ranking for longtail kws on 2nd page. No change at all in the SERPs. Exact same position.

I think it only works in a "social" way so far, it might show better rankings within the circle of people who have pluss one'd it.

Damn! Dude, chill out with the grumpiness. Just cause you are a loner doesn't mean that you will have to spread your grump. Do yourself and other a favor and get yourself a fuckin pad or a tampon.

The major benefit G+ has over Facebook is circles. Stick employer + grandparents in one circle named "NSFW", other friends and people you don't give a fuck seeing what you say in another... choose which to publish status updates. Facebook's static 1 size fits all just doesn't cut it.
