Is this social media overkill?

I'm building a blog right now with an emphasis on brand and social media followers.

I have a sidebar widget on the top right of my site to follow me on facebook, twitter, etc.

Then i have another plugin that has a little floating verticle bar on the lefthand side of my articles so that people can like and +1 really easily. this is just for posts, not pages.

Then I have a 3rd plugin which is a social author bio.. basically it shows my picture as the author, has a little blurb about me, and has buttons to follow me on social media. This appears after the article content, before the comment box and footer, etc.

Is this overkill?

I feel like a dumbass for having 3 damn wordpress plugins just for social media lol. hardly efficient. I know people who don't even use more than 3 wordpress plugins on a site. period.

But i definitely want people to follow me nomatter what page theyre on, i want them to like my posts easily, and i want people to be able to follow me at the bottom of my pages and articles if they read all the way through and liked the content.

So I dunno what to do =/

You know, I find it's really hard to trick people into "liking" your content. Because, no matter how many obnoxious buttons you have, they still won't like/+1/share something that doesn't create a spark in their brain (or if you don't force them to view "18 yr girl omg hueg tits!" through a like-wall). So instead of worrying about your widget placement, maybe focus on getting that content to be like-worthy. If it's really good people will copy&paste that url on their own (imagine that!)

The vertical thingy is usually enough. You can consolidate the other ones with editing your theme and doing some css/html. Or just get rid of them.

I couldn't agree more. Trust me, I'm focused 100% on writing compelling content that's thought-provoking and encourages people to share.

I just wanted at least 1 spot where they can like/share the article itself, and 1 spot where they can follow me on social media if they like my site/brand in general. Hence the 2 spots. which has now grown into 3 lol.

So the vertical thing is going to get likes for my pages, but not followers for me on social media sites. Maybe I'm misguided here. I'll admit i'm new to the social media and brand thing. And I do agree with you about the fact that writing content that people find helpful is #1. Just thinking out loud here. Ty for the response btw.

slows down your page speed, doesn't really increase shares. you could do something like okcupid blog which has a hidden css div that slides in from top as you reach bottom of the content (aka when you finished it and are most engaged) but just slapping a bunch of buttons on there doesn't make them share

Viewed the OkTrends. This seems more cost efficients in terms of bandwidth and most definitely a great plugin to Grab the Readers attention after being engaged with your content.

Time to edit the WP :P Oh btw Do you have a name of the plugin? Will be searching for but if you already have one from your split test, would you mind sharing it here? Its much better if it has Twitter and a few more SM's

Thanks!

I have always noticed sites that get a lot of traffic from social media sites get lots more likes and such, because the visitors are already logged in to their social media account.
