Ughh, I didn't really think this one out thoroughly. Sorry, the thread ended up sounding like a typical DP/WaFo thread. This was not my intentions.
I was talking to a good IM friend and we were discussing our past in regards to Internet Marketing. I found it interesting how we had both arrived in our particular situations. The trials and tribulations, the ups and downs etc… Anyone in this game knows the feel.
Anyhow, I'm not much of a writer (I'm no CCarter), but figured I would tell my story. I figure it might be cathartic for me and good to remember where I was before in comparison to where I am now. And just maybe it will help someone out. So here goes.
Ahh, where to start. So, 2007… I was working as a contractor for Comcast here in my area. Not a bad gig, decent money, long hours, typical workplace politics. At night I would go home and moonlight on the Internets. Occasionally would make money, most times I lost. Making money online was more of a pipe dream, but deep down inside I knew I could do it.
At the time I was working for Comcast. My wife was pregnant with my first child. It wasn't a planned venture, but whatever she turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Let me digress a bit more…at the time I felt secure with my job. The company had given me a brand new work truck, which I could bring home and drive for work and personal. My dumbs ass is thinking, ahh…I have a paid off car, why not sell it and get some cash. At the time I had a VR6 GTI Volkswagon. I ended up selling the car figuring I had security. Big mistake.
Here is how it went down…I show up to work, boss tells everyone we need to have a meeting. There is roughly 15 techs in the room. He notifies us we need to hand in our tools and trucks. They had lost their contract with Comcast. I was in shock. So here I am at this point, no job, no car, lived out in bumble fuck, my wife is 8 months pregnant. I was fucked.
At this point I'm desperate. I'm literally riding my vintage BMX bike to the industrial park 4 miles down the road to look for jobs. You guys don't know me, but just imagine a 6" dude riding a BMX bike down the road in a suit. I'm pretty sure someone rolled their window down and yelled "DUIs suck".
Let me digress a bit, and tell you the first business I ever started. While I was working for Comcast, I met another technician named Eddie. This guy was the epitome of degenerate. He was the guy at the casino selling his watch to get another $20 to bet with. If there is one thing in life I have learned, it is to never discount anyone's view point. Eddie was a degenerate, but he had a lot of practical advice.
Eddie turned me on to Sports betting. In retrospect this was a curse and a blessing all in one. Still trying to figure out which comes first. I figured out there was people being paid to post their opinion on sports games. What?? This is the greatest thing ever! Found a web designer build a site and I was off…so I thought. Sports handicapping was my first offical online business.
Fast forward a bit, and here I am broke and desperate. End up meeting a guy named Jason. Now this guy was a character. He had sold his boat business in Minnesota for 4 million, and started an online business. He was in the "targeted traffic business". I thought to myself naively, it's that easy? Just buy a bunch of traffic and your rich? I think what really struck me was the fact that other people would want this service. I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I always had a good sense with business.
Scrolling through Jason's site I noticed he had a link to "business opportunity". He was offering to train anyone for $1,500 how to run the same business he was. I was intrigued. The question was, how the fuck was I going to come up with $1,500?
Here I am, pregnant wife, no car, no job. I can't rub two pennies together.
To be continued...that is if you guys want to hear the rest.
