Here is my plan. People spend upwards of $150 to $200 to get their maximum refund from companies like H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt and the like. I'm going to create a website marketing an online tax system that will work as such:

1) Scan and upload your W-4 and any other tax forms.
2) I will fill out your tax information and do anything I can to get your maximum refund.
3) I'll use software that ends up costing $25 or so to e-file.
4) I will charge $50 for the service, and clear all forms with you before sending off to the IRS.
5) It should take me around an hour to 90 minutes to get everything done for a simple filing. That's around $15 an hour or a little more for me for a technical side job.
6) Payments can be made via check or PayPal or some other methods (possibly).

Upsides: The user won't have to leave home or do anything to get the job done.

Downsides: Getting publicity.

I'm a college student, so advertising there and around the area will work well. I also will have a questionnaire for people to fill out of basic questions before filing. If I have any other questions, I will email them.

My questions to you:

1) Would you use something like this?
2) Would any of your family members use something like this?
3) What would it take for you to trust a guy online with this information?
4) How should I market myself for this?

If this works well, it could be a nice $2,500 to $3,000 + in my pocket for a side job, plus practice (accounting student), and something great to go on a resume, plus a working small business to attach assets to.

$15 per hour huh? Sweet. You might just beat that guy that wanted to work on a slave... I mean Cruise ship

pretty sure its illegal to e-file on behalf of someone else. you have to "sign" your name when you do it

1) Would you use something like this?
HELL no.

2) Would any of your family members use something like this?
Not unless they are retarded, but I do have a retarded brother, so maybe.

3) What would it take for you to trust a guy online with this information?
A lot:
A. For that guy to be named something like "Turbo Tax" or "Tax Cut."
B. For the BBB and Thawt and other trust certificates to be present on site.
C. For other people to be RAVING about how it is better than what I'm using now.
D. For me to read a review they wrote raving.
E. Very highly-polished site with Grade A graphics, 256 encryption https, security cert, etc.

4) How should I market myself for this?
IF you have everything else in place and can build the trust like TurboTax does, then you need to start local and do local SEO for tax services.
