I'm working on some product labels for a new venture of mine.

I decided to download Illustrator and try using it. OMFG it's epic!!

So I guess Illustrator is meant to be used for anything that will be printed?

What is Photoshop best used for?

Illustrator can be used for everything. I find it's awesome for wireframing websites and doing a lot of the design. Doing stuff like stars is wayyyyy easier in illustrator than photoshop.

Photoshop for picture editing and design too, but doing paths in it is a pain and clunky.

Illustrator - vector graphics, i.e. scalable (you can enlarge or shrink it without loss of quality). Good for logos, drafting, print, etc...

Photoshop - raster images, i.e. not scalable (esp. enlarge). Good for photos, icons, and other web work.

I personally can't use illustrator for web work, but to each their own.

Like moltar said, illustrator is for scalable graphics. For print stuff, you'd want to use adobe InDesign.

I like fireworks more than illustrator, and I use photoshop the most but as a photographer. But for web buttons/icons fireworks is really easy. (it's an adobe product just like illustrator and photoshop)

I'm still on CS4 and there's like 2 dozen programs, I use 3 of them.

try balsamiq

Balsamiq is amazing for putting together quick layouts. I especially like it because it makes it clear to clients that it's just a "sketch" of the sites layout, and no way, shape, or form a completed product.
