I have no problems with this guy defending himself with his gun in his home.

What about the other 84 people killed by guns that day in the US? Oh right, 46 of them were suicides and 38 were murders.

Well, seems like a decent trade off, I guess.

Because people who have guns for self defense won't break the law to get a gun.

However, people who have guns to commit a crime would break the law to obtain a gun illegally.
 
There will be gun control (as in, you are not allowed to own a gun) at about the same time I get Elvis P. to serve me a big gulp at 7-11.

As in not gonna happen, never gonna happen. Why bother arguing over it?
