I'm not going to explain my reasons why I applied or why I chose what school, but I applied to a college that a bunch of my friends go to, it's actually pretty hard to get into now.

So I called them and they said my 2.9GPA was "borderline", which then I mentioned I wrote an essay explaining my situation and how I didn't go to school much to take a risk in building a million dollar business.

I don't know if they just thought my essay was a load of bullshit or what, but I got a rejection letter today and I am livid about it.

Now before I drive 2 hours away to the school to blow a gasket in their office, how would you approach the situation? I don't even know if it's possible for a school to do, but I want to talk to them and try and change their minds on the decision.

2.9gpa is pretty bad if you are applying to some good college imo. I had 3.6 gpa and i didnt even get in any top UCs.

Yeah the point was I literally NEVER went to class and still had a B average, and now I actually WANT to go to school and have business experience that will help in the classes I take.

You might have a millionaire dollar business but right now they care more about your GPA. It may seem stupid, but to them, on paper you didn't look that great.

I just got accepted to U of Montana, woo hoo!

Appeal the decision. Most schools have an appeal committee for these situations.

You could always apply again next year after taking classes at SUNY BUffalo (you're upstate, no?) or a community college, during which time you need to get straight A's while building your business.. That may change their mind next year.

with your blog some of your writing smacks of hubris and pomp...

I'm not accusing you of being a pompous ass per se, but that's the way your writing may have come across.

I failed out of high school, yup straight F's and had to bail for a year, only to get lucky enough to be able to re enroll and get a 4.0 my last two years. The essay I wrote to get into college, was from the point of view of humility and humanity with a philosophical arc. Not get money + get fucking paid. Stop talking about fucking money talk about life (even if it is your life).

Another thing, walk into the admissions office and hand the decision maker your essay if you can and talk to someone there. I did have a great GPA but there were so many tarnishes on my records, I basically had to ballroom dance with the fucking admission's lady.

it's a private club and you've just been told you're not invited. don't know why you're so hyped to go to school now.

here's basically what higher education amounts to if you're going for an advanced degree. learn to enjoy it.

No offense to you but, what makes you think they want to accept someone that built a million dollar business? They are probably thinking hey, this guy is already successful so what the fuck does he want college for? Wrong approach if you ask me.

BTW, what school did you apply to?

Telling a college admissions officer who is a square bookie that you didn't take the college route because you wanted to be rich is self boasting and counter productive. If you want to get into a who's who college you need to conform, not say "look at me I'm different, let me in!"

Plus your GPA is bad from their standpoint.
Were you one of the kids that went to class high/drunk all the time? :)

Offer them a free membership to ubercamp if they accept your application...

jk.

1. Why are you applying to a school two hours away? and...
2. If fitness / exercise is your passion, why don't you just get your personal trainers certification or an AA in sports medicine?

If you pursue it, blowing a gasket in their offices won't resolve anything.

Book an appointment with the dean or whoever, and go in prepared to make a case, along with financial records etc. Audit yourself and show them.

Bring your checkbook... just in case.

RPI is actually a very difficult school to get into, if that's where you are talking about, and more power to you.

Whoever said to go to community college and raise your grades isn't bullshitting. Many colleges (and, for that matter, grad schools) have hard cutoffs for GPA. ESPECIALLY if you are a 'transfer' student with previous college credits accounting for that 2.9 GPA.

Go to a community college for a semester or two if you are serious about this school, then transfer in. Else- I'd just go somewhere different. For example, if you research any schools that have a very heavy entrepreneurial business department, I expect they'll be much more sympathetic of the GPA and would love to have you as a student- even if you don't want to major in Business. A couple in Massachusetts come to mind immediately.

2.9 is a pretty derelict average.

Good luck. I never got rejected for any school to which I applied, so I can't offer any practical advice apart from doing some study and stop being a swaggering ass.

Donate money, but tell them that in turn you want to study there. If you give enough they will even rename the library to the Uber library or something.

My essay was actually a combination of talking about my business, and then also talking about my position in life.

I feel like I missed out on a lot by dropping out to run my business, and I truly desire being a student with the last good opportunity I have.

I chose the college I did because it's a good school and I have a ton of friends there and love being there.

I applied to Geneseo. I would either take business classes (I used that argument in my essay, how I could really have a positive impact on the atmosphere and students around me and share my real-world experiences), or physics.
