Just Got Rejected To A College

Get as many recommendation letters as you can from your past teachers. I used to work in the admissions office at my college... trust me it can help get you in.

If that doesn't work you'll have to go to a local community college first and then transfer in. Students transferring with an AA from a community college don't need as high a GPA as someone straight from high school.

College is extremely competitive these days and most of the decent schools require at least a 3.6 to get accepted from high school.

My essay was actually a combination of talking about my business, and then also talking about my position in life.

I feel like I missed out on a lot by dropping out to run my business, and I truly desire being a student with the last good opportunity I have.

I chose the college I did because it's a good school and I have a ton of friends there and love being there.

I applied to Geneseo. I would either take business classes (I used that argument in my essay, how I could really have a positive impact on the atmosphere and students around me and share my real-world experiences), or physics.

I am sure that your college essay was sincere, but as I said above- some schools just have a hard cut off on GPA. They like nice round whole numbers, not because of some disbelief of you, but because it effects their reporting statistics for future classes.

Also, consider that the majors of interest are a pretty big leap from where you were (physical education or health/ physiology, correct?). Most schools, when considering a transfer applicant going from something statistically less difficult as a major to something statistically more difficult will want to see demonstrated academic progress.

I am not saying that it's fair or that you are unqualified- I am just saying that because they probably have hard cutoffs and weren't helping their status- you got burned for being a white, male 'average' transfer student.

They can't report your bank statement on their admissions statistics.

That's their bottom line.

You're going to go down there and what? Show them your blog?

Seriously, take a breath, accept the rejection for now, do what the others said , take a semester of community college and then reapply. You are much more likely to get accepted because a) you've persevered over rejection and b) your persistent and c) you've shown fortitude.

Drop the idea of going to college, i believe you already have a good thing going for yourself right?

If the answer is Yes then what use do you have for a degree if you are your own employer and don't need to turn up at a job interview with a degree in your pocket?

If you want to get some actual specific business knowledge then you can always take some special courses since you can afford to do so, i presume you want to learn something specific to help you with your current business endeavors and not just to earn bragging rights by having a college degree.

If he wants to go to college let him go. People go for different reasons. I went because that's what everyone in my family does. It's a source of pride for us and it may be for him as well. It's also a fantastic experience. You can't really put a price tag on self worth or a fabulous experience (and with what colleges charge for that piece of paper it's a good thing you can't!!!)

I have almost been through one year of college.

I have changed more as a person than the last 18 years of my life.

I have learned so much about myself.

I have met so many different kinds of people.

I would not trade my college experience for any money in the world.

Just Got Rejected To* A College

You sure that's not why?
Jk.

Anyway, college is a huge waste of time and money.
You can go and 'pretend' to learn, but in the end, that's all there is to it.
A lot of gloss and a shitty overpriced degree that's only good for getting a
mediocre job somewhere where you're supposed to spend >10 years
working your way up to a decent salary.
Trust me, you're not missing out on anything.

I mean come on, spend 1-2 years at a community college correcting
your GPA so you can then spend 4 years getting some crap bachelors degree?
That's 5-6 years WASTED.

Son, I just want to tell you, you're gay ;)

I have changed more as a person than the last 18 years of my life.

College taught me 3 things.

1. I have the ability to learn new things
2. How to be a good corporate lap dog
3. A college degree is as worthless as the paper its printed on

Case and point. I have a friend that spent the better part of 10 years in school. 2 bachelors degrees, 2 masters degrees in different fields of engineering and mathematics. A real smart fucker. Last month she was laid off from Texas Instruments .... and she can't find another job, anywhere in the US in the engineering field. She's gonna lose her house, her car, pretty much everything if she doesn't come up with something in a few months. She's even applying to Barnes & Noble at $7.75/hr.

Her degrees proudly displayed in her home office, which has never been used mind you. I can guarantee she'd sell you that piece of paper for a single months mortgage payment right about now.

If you're just looking for the college experience and the bragging rights then attend a community college for a few years, party your ass off and then take a big pile of cash into the University you want to graduate from and buy yourself a degree like the rest of us rich assholes.

Okay well as stated getting a degree isn't my primary motivation behind this.

All my best friends go to this school and it's their last year, so it's my last chance to live the real college life for a year and I want to do it. I'd still try in school and get whatever grades they want me to get, but I'm going now because there's a sense of urgency where all my friends will be graduating next year and the shot to experience what I've missed will be over.

Use you leet skillz and outrank them for their name.

Call them terrible names on your site until they let you in.

Once they relent and let you in, 301 to their site.

I quit school, then went back because I thought I missed the experience.

I'm not saying don't do it, but for me it was a bad choice to go back. The first time I went to college I knew it was all bullshit, but I thought it was at least for a greater good.

The second time I went, I had a little more life experience, a successful business, and just felt out of place. I had forgotten how much time and effort it really takes, and found that my business came WAY before studying about fucking rock formations or types of architecture. That may just be me though because I'm a business nut and always have been so that's what I enjoy, it's not just a way to make ends meet.

Leaving college kind of sucks because it means you can't go back and be a kid, and trust me, I would love to go back to being an 18 year old freshman and do the crazy shit I did back then, but when I went back, I realized it just wasn't the same anymore unfortunately. Again, that's just my situation, I mean being on campus, the good classes, and of course the girls in warm weather alone might make it worth it.

Would you be able to take the same classes and see them a lot on campus, or are you talking more about the "extra curricular" things? How many credits do you currently have?

Same kind of situation here. I dropped out last year because it was a waste of time, but missed the life so I applied again and got in to a different course at the same college. The plan was to just scrape by I guess, but as my business took off even more I noticed just how much I despised "studying", that is, writing essays and completing projects which I found useless and boring as fuck. I've almost finished my first year again, and I'm glad I came back because it was fun, but I'm counting down the days until I get kicked out from what few months I have left, because I sure as hell won't be back for more studying.

Anyway Paul, you can go to college and you'll probably enjoy it, but if you're anything like me, all the work which you'll be expected to do will pile up and eventually piss you off. If there's a one year course you can do go for it, there aren't any here and I would have loved to do one. Otherwise go to any campus college and drop out after one year (I'd be very suprised if you finish a 3 year course).

Goober, if you want to go to college for the experience, then just move right next to the campus. Join the frat house, fuck college chicks and binge drink. If someone ask if you went to this college, just said you dropped out last year and taking a year off.

It's a win win -- the college experience san BULL FUCKING SHIT school work.

You know the hundreds of hours you spend studying bullshit subjects? You're not getting it back. Wasn't 12 years of high school bad enough?
