Keep Fighting Internet Blacklist Bill -- S.968

Maybe I'm overreacting, but the idea of this bill being passed is what's making me nervous about taking the dive into Internet Marketing more than anything. If this passes, wouldn't it just be a matter of time before most sites that are made by guys like us are shut down? I mean, I can completely see how big businesses love this bill, but can Internet Marketers really continue to make money if this passes?

IM is pretty much dead already, just stay ahead while you're behind.

Haha Whoops! Lol it was originally a smartass remark, but then I wasn't sure if he was actually being sarcastic.

I mean realistically if this bill passes, it will kill a good majority of what people currently doing in IM. Not saying it will wipe everyone out, but it definitely would be a huge blow. People can still adapt, but I highly doubt the margins and risk of having a site completely shutdown would be worth it.

ok dude if you believe any of that just quit now. I'm 100% against this bill and I see all kinds of problems it can create, but to say that it will kill what most people are doing in IM, i mean, shit.

I'm not trying to piss anyone off about it, just trying to have a debate. The bill is being backed by big businesses as a way to regulate the internet. As I'm sure most of us here know, regulations in general tend to hurt small businesses by having to make them bend over backwards filing legal documents and paperwork to stay within the law which cost time, money, and unnecessary frustrations.

The online poker industry was hit hard by a similar bill. I just don't want to see this happen to IM...

From http://gigaom.com/2011/10/27/looks-like-congress-has-declared-war-on-the-internet/

"Techdirt’s Mike Masnick notes that the new bill actually expands the range of websites that could be targeted by the bill: the previous version referred to sites that were “dedicated to infringing activities” with no other obvious purpose, but the new law would allow the government to target any site that has “only limited purpose or use” other than infringement (by the government’s definition)."

^ Sounds like many content driven sites that are created here would be affected based on this latest proposal
