Kendrick Lamar "Control" Verse

What makes this good exactly? all I hear is a some mediocre beats, some high pitched bitch and some fellas talking about stuff that doesn't matter.

What am I missing?

I can't go anywhere in the last 3 days without hearing about this.

From a Marketing perspective, that alone makes what he did genius. Who cares if its the best verse ever, he's got half the world talking about it. I know I'm taking notes. Respect.

50 Cent built his entire career doing this, i.e. calling out rappers. Not saying he's just as skilled, but this is not the least bit innovative or interesting, even from a marketing perspective--it's been done a bunch of times. Does it work? Of course. Is it genius? Not really. I've heard people ranting about Kendrick for a long time and I still don't get it, I guess I need to listen to more before I draw any conclusions.

Same people who tell me Kendrick is good say Drake is good, so obviously it's hard to take them seriously.

is calling out rappers pretty bad ass then? like "hey man i can say stuff that rhymes a bit, better than you". Odd thing to get worked up about, isn't it?

Ready between the lines. If you were around the rap community a lot you'd know how much of a big deal this was. Shit had over a million searches yesterday, #1 trend on Google.

Also the big deal was that he dissed NYC rappers and said he was the king of NY (birthplace of hip hop) ----he's from Compton. that alone takes a lot of balls and he pretty much got away with it.

If anything, we'll start seeing more great music from rappers as they try to prove to eachother how good they are and no-one can complain about the state of rap as it is.

There's more going on behind the scenes than him just calling out people.

I guarantee he has his team is all over social media/news outlets right now making sure this goes viral.

That's the genius part. Calling out rappers is easy. Getting places like WickedFire to care that you did is not.

Its not even his song, he's featured on it. Yeah it might give him a bigger buzz for his next album but he doesnt need it. He's had a buzz before this.

I like where its going, bunch of artists already responded. Its competition. LeBron is cool with most basketball players, but he's still going to compete to keep that crown. While others do whatever it takes to get that ring/crown.
