Yeah I don't listen to much rap anymore, but my first thought was "when did rappers STOP calling each other out"? I can only assume that the people making a big deal about this aren't even old enough to drink. Or maybe rap is just really that bad now, even worse than I thought...

None of those rappers except 2pac called out an entire region of rappers. Plus biggie and pac are eventually shot over the "beef". The new generation won't, they're way smarter than that. Kendrick created competition in the sense that he's already a well respected lyricist, and if he wasn't no-one would pay this any attention. But he is and he knows people will listen to what he has to say so he used that to create controversy. In a good way. He brought out the best of these new rappers trying to prove to their fans that they can even keep up.
