N00b here, so be gently guys. I have a question regarding utilizing a keyword phrase. For example, if my website has some articles with titles and content not relating to my keyword phrase, and those articles do not contain my keyword phrase, does that affect me negatively? Should I somehow try to include my keyword phrase within every article?

Example given, my site may be about bars in New York and keyword phrase my site revolves around may be "New York Bars," however, I do have a forums category that discusses other areas of New York such as Most Common Tourists Destinations of New York, Famous Landmarks, Hotels, Restaurants, etc. My forums is only a small portion of my site but a lot of content about New York can accumulate overtime that does not relate to only New York bars. Please advise and thank you in advance. :)

it's not necessarily negative, no. Semantically related content, especially content that is growing naturally from a forum, is a great thing to acquire.

It's alright not to have to much of your targeted Keyword on your site. But No keyword at all to your articles? How can you expect to rank for that Keyword if you don't even use it? Make sure to have 3-5% density on the whole site for that Keyword or you won't rank there at all.

Also It's great to use "New York Bars" when you are targeting Bars of New York. This keyword is needed with many similar KW related to your target KW. Many marketers calls it "LSI Keywords" where in the long run gives you unexpected traffic and will give your Keyword a good boost in On-Page optimization.

BUT BUT BUT! This LSI keywords are of no use if your Target Keyword is nowhere to be found on your site. So before you post those articles make sure you have at least 3% of your targeted keyword on it.

Goodluck on the site. And Don't rush, it is much better to prepare than to repair :)
