I try not to get too political around here, but the Government does piss me off, both parties, and this article is a pretty good summary of where we are and where we're heading...

The following are 10 examples that show that we no longer live in the land of the free and the home of the brave….
#1 According to the ACLU, state police in Michigan are using “extraction devices” to download data from the cellphones of motorists that they pull over. This is taking place even if those pulled over are not accused of doing anything wrong.
The following is how an article on CNET News describes the capabilities of these “extraction devices”….
The devices, sold by a company called Cellebrite, can download text messages, photos, video, and even GPS data from most brands of cell phones. The handheld machines have various interfaces to work with different models and can even bypass security passwords and access some information.
#2 In the state of New York, the Department of Health has designated wiffle ball, dodge ball, kick ball, freeze tag, red rover, frisbee tossing and tug of war as “risky recreational activities“. Any organization or program that allows kids to enjoy these games during the summer will now be subject to strict government regulation according to the New York Daily News….
Under the new rules, any program that offers two or more organized recreational activities – with at least one of them on the risky list – is deemed a summer camp and subject to state regulation.
#3 At one public school in the Chicago area, children have been banned from bringing their lunches from home. Yes, you read that correctly. Students at that particular school are absolutely prohibited from bringing lunches from home. Instead, it is mandatory that they eat the food that the school cafeteria serves.
10 Examples That Should Convince Anyone That We No Longer Live In The Land Of The Free And The Home Of The Brave

Dear Government,

Leave me the hell alone.

Thanks,

-Scott

P.S. I'm a veteran. In a sense, I'm very patriotic... But I'm really starting to worry about what the future holds for the good ol' U.S.A.

At Scott:

I'm gonna lump a few items in your thread. They're unrelated to your post, but everything goes back to the state. Seems to fit given your thread title.

1. TSA's new list of things to watch for includes this gem:

Passengers who display arrogance and verbally express contempt for security procedures.

Seriously? As Balko puts it, "Because terrorists are known for drawing attention to themselves by irritating security screeners?" lol

Sources: CNN piece, Balko piece.

2. High gas prices got you down? Don't worry. Holder's got your back:

Prodded by growing public frustration over sharply rising gasoline prices, the Justice Department on Thursday announced the formation of the Oil and Gas Price Fraud Working Group to ensure consumers are not victims of price gouging.

Of course.

Source: CNN piece

If I could figure out how to leave a tag, I'd leave "lol@voters".

Although I agree with the overall sentiment here, and personally believe the USA lost it's freedom around the Johnson & Regan administrations, that page you have quoted from just screams of "tin-foil-hat-wearing-nutzoids typing from their fallout bunkers.

Have you checked out the comments on it? Not a one of them wasn't fully stocked up with guns and food to last through the revolution... And every ad was for some kind of survival gear or gold coin. Nutcase central.

What's happening to america is not Orwell's vision of big brother, anyway. There is no one source like "the government" that is doing the controlling... Even our government itself is under the control of hundreds of separate corperations. (Although it is COMPLETELY controlled, there isn't one mind or agreement which way to take it towards... Except profits.)

Like in the matrix, we the consumers are all walking duracell batteries that our corporate overlords are farming for profits. Whatever makes us more profitable is what lies in our future... And the corporations WILL take a cut in their profits if it means holding off a revolution.

So there isn't going to be any revolution at all. 95% of america would sit at home and watch it on television if there was. Or record it and upload the fighting to youtube.

They'd feel like it's happening in some other country, even if they themselves are recording the bloody footage...

If you want to know WTF is REALLY going on in the world today, and what you can do to stop it, I highly recommend this tiny short 8-minute film:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5kHACjrdEY]YouTube - The Story of Citizens United v. FEC (2011)[/ame]

(It's the best general-purpose explanation I've found for most people. It's also short.)

And for those that want to know exactly how we got to this point, the BBC did an AWESOME, JAW-DROPPING 4-part documentary on it called "the Century of the Self" which will show you in incredible detail exactly how your current world was formed, starting with a theory by Sigmund Freud.

Here is the first (and most important) of the 4 episodes:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcYBSXgtmKQ]YouTube - The Century of the Self - 1 of 4 - Happiness Machines[/ame]

The 3rd Episode goes into depth about Marketing during the 70's and 80's, when our final marketing models were formed. - But if you only see one other I recommend the 4th episode, which shows exactly how it translates directly into our politics.

I really can't recommend the films above enough. They aren't that long and offer a far greater understanding of the world and your place in it.

I'd suggest them to be required watching for every school student, but once you understand the system, you'll know exactly why this could never happen.

It's ok cause Obama is calling for a spending reduction in the tax code.

(Known to not assfuckery people as a tax increase)

Been saying this shit for a while now. We really need a revolution leader, someone to start the process. Need to get these fucks out of our life.

P.S. I personally think ALOT of our economy problems would be fixed also. You need permits and special approvals and licenses to do anything business wise anymore. You can't really just go start a restaurant, or business, or whatever you want without it being regulated and fined to complete shit.

Would be interesting to see how Michigan would respond to encrypted data -- would they order a person not charged or suspected of a crime to decrypt the data from the phone, for no reason other than the fact that it is encrypted?

This could well define Walmart. At one time a few years ago I was laid off and desperate for a job. I got hired at Walmart ( Yah, I know). In the new hire training they stressed to all new applicants that shareholder profit was first and foremost over everything else. I walked out and never went back.

P.S. I still refuse to shop at Walley World :)

sadly the usa now is like Rome after its peak. The good times have come and gone and like a death star it is beginning its downward spiral. It is just too cumbersome and big and not hungry enough to compete with the new boys on the block (india / china / eu (now that poorer non eu members joined the eu))

Awesome post man, watching all these videos.

Believe me that the EU is definitely a fucked up place as well. They dance to the tune the US dictates and import more and more regulations and other crap. Stuff takes place in the US first and then the EU happily imports it to establish it over here as well. I wouldn't want to live in China either. Same shit, they just suppress and censor more publicly than the US/EU does.

Revolution? Fuck yeah.
