Land Of The Sheep And Home Of The Blind...

All you ppl chanting revolution; do you even know WTF you want to overthrow?

If you say "the government" I have some nuclear reactors in Japan I want to sell you...

What is it that you think people should overthrow, Luke? The Corporations?

We definitely need to overthrow the empire, freaking Darth Vader going around choke gripping people is not good governing! And I mean fuck guys they blew up the entire planet of Alderaan. The entire fucking planet. Guys lets start a rebellion I know this little green dude who can help out and this old dude who lives in a cave down by river who's cave I sometimes visit.

So let me get this strait. You're suggesting that we overthrow our government because (or at least the straw that broke the camel's back is because) pakistan asked us to leave an airbase?

What, are you afraid that we look like losers now? That the US will become unpopular in the eyes of the rest of the world? :cool-smiley-008:

They are the responsible ones for this; simply because you could throw every last elected representative in the country out this very minute and the corporations will ensure that the people you put back into power here will be EXACTLY the same.

But of course you can't overthrow them. They don't have citizenship anywhere, so if you try they'll just move their HQ to Oz or India... And probably become more powerful in doing so.

The ONLY solution to any political problem today in the entire world rests on governments passing an amendment (or that governments' version thereof) that stops all forms of corporate lobbying, and especially campaign funding.

Like in the first film linked above. They have a link back to a petition on their site for this very purpose.

It doesn't matter if you're a Liberal, Conservative, Democrat, Repugnican, a Ron Paul supporter, or even a friggin Neo Nazi...

WHATEVER YOU WANT CAN'T BE HAD UNTIL THAT AMENDMENT PASSES.

revolution 2012

Although I agree with the overall sentiment here, and personally believe the USA lost it's freedom around the Johnson & Regan administrations, that page you have quoted from just screams of "tin-foil-hat-wearing-nutzoids typing from their fallout bunkers.

Have you checked out the comments on it? Not a one of them wasn't fully stocked up with guns and food to last through the revolution... And every ad was for some kind of survival gear or gold coin. Nutcase central.

What's happening to america is not Orwell's vision of big brother, anyway. There is no one source like "the government" that is doing the controlling... Even our government itself is under the control of hundreds of separate corperations. (Although it is COMPLETELY controlled, there isn't one mind or agreement which way to take it towards... Except profits.)

Like in the matrix, we the consumers are all walking duracell batteries that our corporate overlords are farming for profits. Whatever makes us more profitable is what lies in our future... And the corporations WILL take a cut in their profits if it means holding off a revolution.

So there isn't going to be any revolution at all. 95% of america would sit at home and watch it on television if there was. Or record it and upload the fighting to youtube.

They'd feel like it's happening in some other country, even if they themselves are recording the bloody footage...

If you want to know WTF is REALLY going on in the world today, and what you can do to stop it, I highly recommend this tiny short 8-minute film:

YouTube - The Story of Citizens United v. FEC (2011)

(It's the best general-purpose explanation I've found for most people. It's also short.)

And for those that want to know exactly how we got to this point, the BBC did an AWESOME, JAW-DROPPING 4-part documentary on it called "the Century of the Self" which will show you in incredible detail exactly how your current world was formed, starting with a theory by Sigmund Freud.

Here is the first (and most important) of the 4 episodes:

YouTube - The Century of the Self - 1 of 4 - Happiness Machines

The 3rd Episode goes into depth about Marketing during the 70's and 80's, when our final marketing models were formed. - But if you only see one other I recommend the 4th episode, which shows exactly how it translates directly into our politics.

I really can't recommend the films above enough. They aren't that long and offer a far greater understanding of the world and your place in it.

I'd suggest them to be required watching for every school student, but once you understand the system, you'll know exactly why this could never happen.

Everyone should be watching the 2nd video posted above, Im half way through the 2nd in the series. This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.

Great read, although I'm not sure how it's relevant to this thread... That's an anti-Environmentalism piece... Revolting ain't gonna to help with that.

FREE BONUS: a completely unrelated humor break

DAMN YOU. I swore off the oatmeal once before... Sucks up too much time away from work... I really should be checking the links before I click more around here...

But in my humorous wanderings around the site, I did see something relevant to this thread:

Perhaps we could put this pteradactyl up against Obama for the next election? He might have a chance...

Thanks BlokBlok! Glad you like it.

I wish we could force everyone to see this shit... Sheeple just don't have a clue...

The OP's post touched on regulations that rob us of freedom. Tucker's piece deals with regulations. I'm ignoring most of the other stuff in this thread.

As for revolting, I find much of the state's intrusion in citizens' livies revolting. But I am not currently a proponent of armed revolution.

At least I was upfront about it. I've never rolled anyone. I never will. Promise. ;)

'WHATEVER YOU WANT CAN'T BE HAD UNTIL THAT AMENDMENT PASSES.'

I don't know. I think the buying of politicians just goes underground after the amendment passes and you then have what is common in many other countries. Still might be better than the legal corruption that goes on now. At least then it would be technically illegal.

Dude this is seriously the most mind opening thing I have ever watched, it all makes sense now, I have always wondered why there was such a desire to 'control' the people by government and it all makes sense now.

There will always be sheeple, people are inherently dumb as the film points out, the only thing we can do is lead them. I could go on forever about this shit...

Im going to buy some of Freud's books too.

I thought about that and just can't see it resulting in a system of so much corruption.

Basically, 100% of our congressmen, judges in high offices, and of course the whitehouse are currently controlled by corporate interests with no fear of being put in jail or otherwise disgraced.

I think our country would do A LOT better if suddenly that % dropped down to only the 10% or so of the scummiest elected officials, forced to take direct bribes with reporters and police watching them at every transaction.

Right now in the USA, the very highest government offices in the nation for departments that oversee important matters like food, oil, and medicine are held by the very people that used to lobby those positions for mega corps like Tyson, Exxon and P&G! :ak::ak::ak::ak::ak::ak::ak::ak::ak::ak::ak:

-If we were to put an end to that evil shit alone, not letting the enemy be & run our government directly, then perhaps we'd stand a chance as consumers voting with our dollars for what we like.

not to stir up a storm, but the above only applies to publicly traded corporations.
I think you may be right; but the private corps are certainly doing unthinkable damages too. Just because they aren't legally required doesn't mean their motivations would be different.

I felt the exact same way. It is incredible shit. Bernays lived to be something like 103 years old, only dieing recently, too. -Boy that man led a charmed life.

Anyway, Yes, sheeple will always need to be led. -But it seems Consumerism has made 95% of humanity with cash into sheeple.

Before Bernays how big do you think that percentage was?

Bottom line: If we take down the corporate control and reclaim our government, sure, the corps can still sell to us and the sheeple will be happy... There will just be fewer of them.

@lukep: How would this proposed amendment free anyone from anything? I mean, I understand the point that corporate lobbying is corrupt, but there are already all kinds of laws in place concerning lobbying and campaign contributions. None seem to do much good. So how will forcing out corporations change anything?

In an extreme example, how would forcing out corporations help anything if a perfectly non-controversial, generally good company is prevented from lobbying or campaign contributions, but some thoroughly corrupt non-profit, NGO, etc. is not prevented and goes on a lobbying spree to crush or cripple that company?

I'm clueless, I guess, as to why corporations represent such a threat. A corporation is a legal fiction designed to limit liability. The End. Every other benefit conferred on a given corporation is contingent upon other laws that have nothing or little to do with the corporation itself, or corporate laws. So ... the mere existence of a corporation ≠ the existence of a threat to society. Which makes it hard for me to sort out what it is you're proposing.
