Let me know if I got this right. When I design a landing page/site for a CPA offer the best thing to do is the following.

Hop over to Google and do some keyword searches and look at what PAID adwords buyers are doing. Take a look at their landing pages and do something similar without copying them.

Try to do what they are doing but make my landing page better and more enticing.

Am I close or out of the ball park?

What if they're either wrong or split testing? The fact that others are using something is never a guarantee of success of such something.

Also, I see it very hard for you to make them "better and more enticing" when you're yourself seeking examples.

Do you get where I'm going? Trial and error is the only guarantee in this industry if you want to eventually success.

My two cents.

Yes I see where you are coming from. Guess I need to change that to use what others are doing as a starting point and to get ideas.

Sure, they could be losing money or split testing, but it IS a measure of what might work. Especially if you see multiple competitors with similar landing pages.
This is the newbie section. Are you just trying to talk him out of being an affiliate? You really want us to believe you never look at your competitors' strategies?

What I did back in the mail-order days was to watch magazine ads over a period of several months. If the same ad kept running for many months it was most likely profitable or they would not keep running it.

I was trying to modify this method for online ads to say.
