Will start flying around a lot soon and my laptop battery sucks now, so I can't get anything done on the plane. Used to hold a charge well but a year+ later doesn't even hold for an hour. I will need it to hold 10+ hours as I have a ton of time to get from west to east coast, 10+ hours back. I may need to get a new laptop as well, would appreciate any suggestions/links. No macs, also, preferably something under $1k.

Also, shoot any suggestions to keep the battery life long term. Don't feel like buying new batteries/laptops every year.

Spring an extra couple hundred, and make sure you're on a flight that has electrical outlets in the seats.

how can you afford to fly a lot but not upgrade your computer once a year? it's like a racecar driver driving a kia, what the fuck man

Not that I can't afford to upgrade once a year, just don't feel like I need to. Everything besides the battery seems to be working for me. I will if I have to, but just in case.
Plus a few other minor reasons like getting used to a new laptop, reinstalling/moving all the crap... Not that it's too much but why buy new if old still does everything it needs to. I already have 3 towers and 2 laptops around.

Yeah, that's a work around, but would be better just to have a good battery if possible. Sometimes even the airplanes with outlets don't have them in every seat. Plus, its not only for the airplanes, but for convenience as well.

Why dont you just buy a couple spare batteries? I've had my laptop for 3 years now and I'm on my third battery.

AFAIK batteries these days don't give a shit if they are left on charge but do degrade if running hot (please someone correct me if I'm wrong)

x220 can go up to 23 hours with the slice battery + 9 cell battery, 10 hours just with the 9 cell alone.. but it's fucking ugly compared to the ultraportables available these days, if you don't give a shit about the design... thinkpad x220 is pretty much the only game in town

Yeah it is Ugly, FUCK! Thats the first thing that came to mind.

That's one ugly machine..

well, look at the bright side, at least you don't have to worry about it getting stolen, lulz. it's a very powerful machine altogether, it's also one of the few very laptops that offers IPS display + matte screen

A All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, the performance will degrade. For the typical user, noticeable reduction in run time generally will be observed after 18 to 24 months. For a power user, reduction in run time generally may be experienced prior to 18 months. We recommend buying a new Dell laptop battery when the run time does not meet your needs.
