Assuming one subscribes to the Christian or Christian-ish view of God, it's because without trials, suffering, and death any faith had would be untested, and therefore not real. Admittedly it's not across the board, I've heard more than one person say the devil makes tornadoes, etc.
Kind of like one wouldn't reward your puppy for not peeing on the carpet if he was kept him tied to a tree in the yard and there was no opportunity to pee on the carpet.
As for other major monotheistic religions, I couldn't tell you for sure but probably along the same lines.
why not? In God's eyes there is no good or bad. Suffering is great, for most ppl its the only teacher.
But yeah traditional Christian view of God is messed.
Or we could act like humans and hope that human beings are okay. God or no God... This isn't looking good.
