Lead-gen versus direct response

Hey guys,

I'm putting together a one-page website that is essentially a landing page for my services.

I sell website content to small businesses (with a strong USP/twist).

Here's what I'm wondering: Do any of you have experience with sending 100% of traffic to a lead-generation form (just collecting their name, email, and some info) instead of going for direct-response (sales.)

I'm trying to figure out what will be best in the long-run, I'm thinking lead-gen, and then I'll email them and close the sale... because only allowing sales will lead to higher-bounce rate with no chance for a sale in the future.

I know that it will come down to testing and conversion rate optimization on my own -- but I was just looking for some initial help/advice.

EDIT: I realize the third option is allowing both -- but in my situation that would be cumbersome.

Sorry about being vague -- it's not for SEO.

I'm trying to create a killer landing page (effectively a sales page I guess). I'm NOT making the site to drive traffic.

I'm going to drive traffic from my other sites and I'm going to attempt PPC although I don't have any PPC background so it could seriously hurt my wallet in the beginning.

My service is monthly blog content to small businesses. And I was trying to decide whether I should go for lead-gen (getting their info and closing the sale later) on the landing page versus going for the sale right on the page.

Getting their info is probably going to be a lot easier for you than closing the sale immediately, from paid traffic, but I would test out both. Getting the info will allow you to have a more hands on feel and approach, and clients will feel like you are listening to them. There are some people though, that just want to buy, set it and forget it. So try both. :)

My suggestion would be to send all paid traffic to your "lead gen" form... theory behind this is simple.... You need to try to maximize all paid traffic... Even if this offer does not convert on the original visit you can still follow them with google's remarking tool, as well as possibly even e-mail them follow up or cross sell offers...
