Well, you could social bookmark them for example, Bookmarking Demon, copy, paste, fire. Or ping them directly. If it's not too many, a simple dektop pinger tool will do, otherwise there is a decent ping service around here on WF.
As long as they are publically accessible (or at least for the bot), you can get them indexed.
Angelas and Pauls links suck ass. The only thing they are good for, is for the bottom layer of a backlink network. Throw about 10,000 of these things at a web 2.0 page to help it get indexed. Throw another 10,000 of them at each of the other 10,000 links to help get them indexed. If you use profile links in this manner, they can be useful. Never point these kind of links at your money site. It is only a matter of time before Goog realizes what we're doing, then they'll deindex billions of profile links, and if they link to your money site you may get penalized. That's all I have to say about that.
That sums it up pretty well, it's all about the more the merrier and several tiers.
The risk to get penalized isn't too big if it's not your only links...would be way too easy to kick competitors this way.
Worthless? Well, a link is a link and IP popularity certainly isn't wrong, but I don't see them transferring alot of trust like many people still claim. Pretty much like orphan .edu pages on some student webspace.
